Donor pump condition

Does a donor pump for a head conversion (11mm) need to be in full working order for the head to be OK? Or does it not matter?

Most of my pumps I but are untested, I've only ever had a problem with 1 11mm head not working, if it's cheap and it turns go for it

Only if it's cheap enough, it's probably the vane pump which is seized.
