xud9 in a 205?
#1
I know its been done a few times before, but I've still got a few questions.

am I right in thinking they have the same mounts, a xud7 205 -> xud9t

and I'm guessing the tmic won't fit under the bonnet of a 205?

basically seen a 205 localish in need of not too much love, and for a good price, and also I'm in need of some diesel boost, had a want for a 205 for ages ever since I wrote mine of 8 years ago ....

The tmic does fit under there. Have seen it done. (Not sure if raisers were needed though
Again not sure on the mounts though but I'm sure Mr Tait may be along to give you the lowdoen

ah cool will have a trawl through his thread at lunch tomorrow, is pipe dream atm but if the car in question goes cheap enough could be a fun little project

on tmic front thinking about it would be a bad idea, they're bad enough with a good bonnet lining in a 306 let alone without any!

engine mounts are the same; yes, but probably worth replacing them
TMIC i believe you'd need an auto bonnet, or take my route, SMIC.

I'm pretty sure gearboxes are interchangeable so I'd assume so are drive shafts? correct anyone?

power steering? why would you need that?

how do you mean an auto bonnet?

stayed up late reading through strictly_derv's thread I'm very keen on this idea, after all everyone needs 2 cars!!

gearbox is fine, use the XUD9 box, as for the shafts, i believe the 1.8 shafts are fine. I'd suggest keeping both sets, and see which works

power steering? why would you need that?
get rid of it and use the 1.8 AUX setup

how do you mean an auto bonnet?
the automatic 205's have a raised bonnet, see strictly_dervs new bonnet, it's raised, it's called an auto bonnet as it's from the automatic 205's ; the engine sits slightly higher i believe? either way, a bit more roomy

Hope that helps.

Auto bonnet; but would probably have poor air flow to it.

XUD9's won't fit, you need custom engine mount holder welded in and drive shafts. Not worth it. Dodgy

"custom" shafts for this application can very easily be made at home, nothing "custom" is needed, simply bits from different shafts combining Smile The stock GTI ones like to break lol!

so if you stick the 1.8 box on standard 1.8 drive shafts can be used?

if you go 1.9 box 'custom' shafts needed, ie half one and half another standard shaft?

@ginge : great help, cheers bud

Problem with the TMIC is not so much fitting it, it's getting airflow to it.

Well I have a 205 field car, which we put a gti6 box on, and with some parts from a 309 there was no issues at all. max spend is like 20 quid and greasy hands.

So sounds realy easy to do then xud9 engone and box with xud7 driveshafts.
does the standard 205 exhaust downpipe meet with the turbo?
strictly derv: Have you had to cut/smash the bulkhead back o fit a bigger turbo.

No smashing, the engine bay has a fair bit more room. Even with the '25v i dont think he/we are going to smash it at all...

As for the turbo; this is true with the 306, but the 206 is not a 306 Big Grin It, believe it or not, has a lot more room towards the rear. Either because the bay is larger or the engine sits further forward; im not sure.
