Anyone done one? Know any tricks? Looks like most people take bumper/slam panel off for access?

Yeah I know it's on all them engines, right pain really. Though on the mini it was all front end off to do it, not quite so bad on some other cars

Did some research, bumper, slam panel, radiator, subframe... It's a big list for a clutch, gonna give it a miss.

I don't mind doing favours for mates but don't want to sink a whole weekend into doing a job. Engine swap on a 306 is quicker than a clutch change on a mini.. Anyway, he's taking it to someone else, £400 all in including the clutch. Damn, maybe I should of done it! Big Grin

Engine swap on a 306 is quicker than most other things, not a fair comparison lol.

Assuming the clutch kit costs ~£100 that's only like 6 hours labour?

This is why I like having a 306 daily. I can do my work fast on it compared to modern crap.

Some work anyway... I'd rather swap an engine on a HDi than a turbo for example... But I'd rather swap a 1.9PD turbo than engine...

Access seems to be getting worse on cars though, even as engines get smaller, the DV6 is tiny yet still seems to make everything inaccessible somehow. Plus that's in the Focus with a huge bonnet, dread to think what it's like in the Mini!

very very accessible, as the bonnet is the whole front end.

just reading this; last week my mates wifes 07 cooper 1.6d turbo went sick.......noise when pressing clutch pedal;

I gave job to my mates garage , whole front off car,subframe down,exhaust off...he wasn't at all happy with me. flywheel had gone so that added £360 to the cost.
I looked on the mini forums afterwards and the average price is anywere from £1100 to £1450......7.8 hours booktime !

apparently petrol ones are much easier.........
