Hi Everyone,
I bought my 306 in a hurry, after my Passat cam belt went and this was better deal than new engine, from a neighbour with such low mileage (genuine) and it's been brilliant for the last two years, now nearer 45,000.
I'm getting on a bit and don't like working on the car as much as I used to in my 20s/30s so am really pleased that it's been so reliable. I treat it as a workhorse and it's full of hay or dogs or plants so it's always dirty but it doesn't take offence!
I should say that the reason I'm here is because I've messed up the alarm/immobiliser system and Peugeot garage that was bought from don't know anything about one this old (factory installed and have Peugeot manuals).
This is what happened: I accidentally left keys in ignition (after putting windows up as raining). Battery went flat so charged it. Now immobiliser won't de-immobilise, all lights come on, alarm goes off, starter motor runs but doesn't fire. Apparently there should be a code on a card which I can use to reset it (number put in by turning ignition on and off according to number of flashes on dashboard!) but I can't find the card so it seems that I've lost it.
Now the car's just sitting there and I don't know what to try next! Garages must be able to reset when they remove a battery to replace, so very confused that our Peugeot knows nothing about this type of immobiliser. I wonder if RAC/AA know anything.

Welcome along. If its a hdi then there is no such thing as flashing a code in. Where are you? Im sure if a meber is near with pp2k (the peugeot diag stuff) they could pop in and see if the imobilsser is being read. If not its a case of fault finding then

There should be a keycode on a blue plastic card. But that's used with Peugeot Planet, it's not something you can input via dash flashes.
Really need someone with Planet to do anything with the immobiliser unfortunately. I've never heard of it getting stuck on from a flat battery though, seems odd!

You can order a new card from Peugeot, you have to get it direct from Peugeot as it's related to VIN, but not able to be derived from the VIN, just by Peugeot looking up what it should be.

Ah really? I wonder if it's different to Ford then. They told me they couldn't get the code from the reg or VIN on their system for the Fiesta. Maybe I just look too shifty lol.

Guess what! Solved! I got all the spare keys out (all 3) and the spare remote. It's slightly different to the main ones but as the 3rd key doesn't have a remote I just assumed it went with that. However, it's a remote to set or reset the immobiliser! Nowhere does it say in the manual, or immobiliser instructions, that it's controlled by a remote!! Ludicrous. No wonder Peugeot couldn't work it out, too obvious! Took me 5 days - still, saved me fuel.
Thanks so much for the welcomes and the suggestions. At least I have the car in use again, although dogs aren't impressed as they were enjoying the walk to our smallholding (where the car was) from home, 30 minute walk away!
The car was bought new by an elderly gentleman who was the father of a friend of mine. He died and the car sat in the garage for a couple of years and then my Passat blew up and his daughter asked me if I'd like to buy the Peugeot. With 29k for £650 was a bargain I couldn't refuse. I think I'd get that 2 years on with 45k. I've still got the Passat, was going to sell for parts but never got around to it; did love that car.

I'm not too sure that it will last much longer - I stuffed it full of plants, with their soil, in a desperate attempt to recover a beautiful garden that's being flattened & dug up . The back was nearly on the tail pipe! Since I've unloaded the car's grumbling a bit! Oh dear, MOT next week too! Think I'd better get cambelt changed, that weight's too much on an old one.

Yep, Y reg is essentially an '01' plate which doesn't exist. Means you get the cheaper tax!

I believe the immobiliser has a system where if you leave the engine off and the key inserted in for too long, it "locks" out the key temporarily, it won't fire up. To get it going, you have to remove the key, pop it back in and then it will be fine. Your battery died in the middle and would have really confused the system. So don't leave the keys in the ignition and make sure the battery doesn't die if it does!!
Happens to me now and again, it does shit me up when the engine doesn't fire up!

Just for the record, The immobiliser code is retrievable with the vin number, the key is then programmed using Peugeot planet and the 4 digit code you had supplied from whoever
