Advice for replacing a Lucas pump with a Bosch
#1
I haven't posted in the new member section yet as I haven't purchased a 306 yet.

I'd like to run a 306 on a veg oil mix and have discovered that having a Bosch pump fitted is ideal.
The trouble is all the 306's I've seen have had Lucas pumps fitted. I would like to know if Bosch pumps are easy to source and what should I be aware of when purchasing a 306 with a Lucas pump fitted if I plan to replace it with a Bosch?

Bosch pumps were generally fitted to the earlier models.

Often your best bet is a local scrapyard, you can normally negotiate a good price, and you can make sure you have everything you need.. Fuel lines/injectors/woodruff key etc..

Depending where you are there may be a local mechanic/member able to help you out. For example, KrisB may offer a full set up with a supplied pump. (http://www.krisb.co.uk).

Sometimes good deals pop up on eBay, just make sure it would come with all the other bits you need.

to add, it's difficult if you havnt' done one before or have little mechanic experience.

Only if you pay no attention to anything anyone says to try and help you and if you give no information but still expect people to be able to read your mind and work out what is wrong..................

Its actually pretty simple if you are fairly competent with tools and working on your car!

Basically if you are competent with mechanics / tools then watch my videos and give it a go, if not, take advice and use someone else like krisb / local garage etc...

All the parts can be picked up pretty cheaply on ebay / local breakers yards...

Thank you for your replies.
I'll wait for a 306 I'm happy with and deal with the pump afterwards.
I'll get a skilled person to replace it and take notes.
