Slight update:
Track at Llandow - all day open pit, car didn't miss a beat and performed extremely well.
The front wheels are odd above as they're running semi-slicks and below after the track day, as they're being refurbished. The rears have already been done, you can see as they're looking spanking, the fronts are currently at the body shop so track spares are currently rocking the odd look at the moment!
When returned, had some nice weather so spent the day giving the car a really good going over.
My method, with links included to the products I personally use. Can't stress this enough, find products YOU can work with. Not products that people tell you work well... Feel free to comment:
- 2 bucket wash - first with decent soapy water, second with fresh, clean water. Hose off as i'm going round. Ignoring wheels
- Loosely dry the car - 2 cloths, first to rid the water mass, followed with a second cloth ignoring windows.
-
Autosmart Tardis de-tar treatment over the entire car, panel at a time
-
Quick detailer (clean) as/after I de tar a panel - I know, demonshine, slate it, but from my experience, the price of a quick detailer used for cleaning off remaining chemicals such as this, or for clay lube, this works a treat...
-
Clay bar any remainder heavy spots on the car.
- Then I go about taping off any areas I don't want the polish to hit and section off larger panels to work with using
3M blue detailing tape
-
Machine buffing (DAS-6) , this is a dodo juice, brand is irrelevant.
- Firstly with
Meguiars 105 hard compound with an
Orange hex-logic pad
- Wiped/cleaned with quick detailer again
- Secondly with
Meguiars 205 fine compound with a
White hex-logic pad.
-Finally, the windows I give a going over with
Rain-x. I swear by this stuff. Gives the windows a really nice gleam whilst giving a nice waxy finish when it rains. Don't use the crappy spray bottle or 'screen wash additive' shit. The original is the best.
and that's pretty much it... I havn't touched the wheels as they're early finished, but when I do, I use
meguiars wheel cleaner followed by
meguiars tyre gel.
Not a great amount of picture of the final piece as I was in a rush to get off. The next clean, when the last two wheels are on, i'll get some better pictures.
Comments and criticisms welcomed.
