Cleaning the intank strainer

I read somewhere something about being careful of hiw much fuel is un the tank when doing this true or no? Also any tips or things to watch out for ? Thanks everyone i will be might make a shirt guide on this aswell

Ideally you don't want much in the tank, as when you take the pickup out it can leak everywhere if its above a certain level (not sure how much).

I've tended to leave it till theres 1/4 or less
