I'm trying to reset my dell Inspiron mini 1010 to factory's defaults, I've searched on numerous forums and sites and it says press Ctrl + f11 at the same time upon the dell menu when you first boot it up, however I have some this loads of times and it just doesn't work! Also tried pressing f8 upon startup and still nothing can anyone help?

In my experience, dells are a PITA to get into any form of bios menu.
Go to the dell site and you will find the manual for it. Find the function key for reinstalling and hit it repeatedly from the second you turn the computer on.

Failing that if you've made recovery discs just boot from them and do it that way.. if you haven't done that (most people don't) you could always just get a copy of win7 and it'll boot from that

As Danny mentioned, if you have too much trouble just use a recovery disc. If you can't find yours send me a PM

Skim reading ftl. Bootable USB OS ftw
Should probably have asked this first, but why do you need to restore factory settings?

Same reason any man wipes his computer. Too much porn history.

Whats wrong with it?
If you want to reset the BIOS and are unable to physically get the UI up then....
Whip off the side of the case and locate the BIOS battery... Its a small ish battery, similar in size to the one you find in a 306 key fob, pull it out and leave for a bout 2 minutes. Put it back in and then boot your PC up.
If you want to reset your entire PC, your best bet is to take the HDD out of the PC, using a sata cable and sata power cable, put it in a mates PC and Windows should automatcially give it a drive path, locate the drive and copy and paste all your inportant data on to his/hers and put your hard drive back into yours, put Win7 disc in, format and you'll have a brand new PC. If you want your data back, do the same with your mates HDD and just copy and paste back into your documents. Sounds long, but after you have faffed about trying to boot etc and making recovery discs, you could have done this...

I was reading his thread and saw he had resprayed his 306. Just was going to ask him for advice, then saw this thread, took no notice of the last post date and thought " I'll put my IT skills to good"!

What davalav is probably what I would go for! Easier to do if you have spare laptops around and an external hardrive!
But reinstalling the OS would make the laptop close to new again
Lol I didn't notice either
