just though id show people the results i get when wet sanding. The wing it self was a home painted item by the previous owner who just painted it quickly rather than taking time to do it obviously a novice. today i was just doing bits on bobs on the car and so trialled a bit of wet sanding to see what could be done to the wing.
only pics iv got of the wing that make it obvious of how bad a match it was
So cracked on with the wet sanding the car had previously been clayed although this wouldnt matter as the sanding removes contaminants
Then cracked out my favoutite menzerna compound polish
The colour match is much better than before not 100% but much better and the orange peel has been reduced dramatically to an almost orange peel free finish.
Next up the whole Car!

Wicked! Much better paint match!
Did you use 1200,1500 or 2000 grit paper?
Where was the lacquer peel, or did you re-lacquer it?

So basically you've just sanded it and polished it?
What happens when the polish wears off? Does it look 'sanded' again like in the second picture or am I missing something lol?

Edited there wasnt any lacquer peel i ment orange peel. i didnt have any finer grade wet and try to hand i try to go for specific types of wet and dry paper this one was a very coarse 800 grit! The sensible way would be to start coarse and go finer often 1000, 2000 and 3000 this would have made the orange peel near on invisible. Only trouble with the wing being home painted you never know how thick the clear coat is with out the aid of paint detective tool but there a tad expensive! The menz compound i use is quite aggresive so can happily remove 800 grit sanding marks at a safe 2k rpm.

polish doesnt wear off it should never be present on a finish where as wax should be. imagine polish as liquid sand paper the finer the polish the better the finish. so the polish here has removed 0.1000's mm of clearcoat to remove sanding marks and leave a flat finish.

As above Tom, your ate getting wax and polish mixed up. Polish will 'wear down' the paint. The courser options being g3, tcut etc, working the way down the scale to things such as me guitars scratch remover or autoglym paintwork renovator etc.
You should apply a cut, finer cut (depends how mad you want to go but another finer cut), polish and wax(s)
To be fair, from the pictures it looks like you have done a decent job. Must have been hard removing the scratches from 800 grit paper! Lol. Nice job!

Tom a polish (or compound like he's used) is basically a liquid sand paper but where as he's used 1000 grit paper, polish is usually so fine you could probably compare it to something like 7-10000 grip paper (if it existed!)
This is why you can't cut a car too often because eventually you will take the clear cost away completely and then it needs to go for a repspray

Orange peel ruins a finish if it's real bad. Peugeot paint isn't to bad for it. The right compound polish finishing polish and wax plays crucial parts too. Doing things by hand won't get the same results as a rotary or da you just can't mimic there speeds by hand. If your local you can always come over

That is some seriously amazing results you have got there, majorly impressed man!!
I've been doing mine today to try and de-swirl and de-orange peel but it's hardly done sweet FA compared to how good yours looks there and that was using a DA with Sonus 3-stage polish and clayed before.
Definitely going to crack out the 2000 grade wet n dry though next time I do it as to be honest, I've never had the balls before but that is exactly how I wanted mine to look like!
