hi there my name is paul and i have a problem with my v reg 306 2 litre hdi meridian and i wonder if any one can help she went into the garage 7 weeks ago with an ecu fault, the ecu was sent away and fixed, then again she would not start ,this time high pressure diesel pump ,eventually she started but wont run , the garage say its a software problem ,peugeot say the software is corrupt and is no longer available for this car i am into the garage for £500 at the moment any suggestions most welcome i am at my witts end ,because i dont know what software they are on about

If it's the ECU then you can get one off eBay unlocked for 160 quid. Just plug and play don't need change keys or anything if it's unlocked

hi. Firstly welcome to the forum and youre probably in the right place for lots of speculation and hopefully some help. My two pence would be if its a software problem i presume they are suggesting the ecu is at fault. If this is genuinely the case you should be able to find a same number ecu (usually the last 3 digits?) and swap the ecu for another one. Issue here is you will also need to swap the immobiliser chip etc.

Im sure someone will be along shortly with some suggestions.

They do Bosch and Siemens version just check which yours is first.

There you go. In case you dont know this claimed to be remapped ecu will have a stage 1 map on it. That takes the car from 90 to 120-125hp and possibly returns a few more mpg. In my experience it makes the car much more driveable and fun. Id recommend it.

Im fairly sure the 3 numbers is the last 3 of the ecu number so you need to check yours. For example the one above is a 162 ecu. The fact its unlocked and immobiliser removed means it should plug and play. EGR delete should mean that it holds the exhust gas return valve closed which means that exhaust gas isnt recirculated back into the engine which gives a cleaner burn but pushes "bad" emissions into the atmosphere. Better running but worse emissions. Shouldnt be enough for it to mail an MOT etc.

thanks guys the first thing they did was send the ecu away for repair and it came back fixed so say

Its difficult to say what hte issue actually is. You would hope the dealer would be correct in saying its the ecu but seeing as its been repaired and refitted its questionable whether they are correct. Can you give us more details as to what the original issue was and what was fixed and what wasnt when it was refitted?

Depending on how close you are i would attempt to go and see one of the hdi tuning specialists who are pro steve or mr whippy and get a stage 1 map at the same time. Their experience may be able to help you fix the issue and youll be able to get a map at the same time.

Yeah I got told my last car was ecu. I got a new one and had to change all the keys and transponder and then was exactly the same. Think it was a problem in the wiring loom but couldn't trace it.

just spoke to garage and they said a remapped unlocked one should do the trick so have emailed the guy selling on ebay ,waiting for reply

Wait, am I missing something? Garage uses someone to repair a ECU, ECU doesn't work/isn't fixed, charges customer... Should they not be trying to get the money back off whoever repaired it and then refunding you? That would not sit right with me at all.
