My rev counter sometimes works and sometimes doesn't, there doesn't seem to be any pattern to when it does and doesn't work. Is there any common problem with this happening? Or is it a case of "it could be anything"?

Dodgy connection on the back of the dials maybe, but more likely a dodgy crankshaft sensor I believe. Give the sensor a clean (it's on the top of the gearbox from memory) and see how that goes.

Common problem mate, that and my speedo works when it wants to, usually going over a bump starts/stops mine lolMy sensor is fine along with the connections, I'm replacing the ribbon behind the dials which carrys the current before I start testing wires

mine works on and off, the cure that hasn't failed for me yet is hitting the top of the dash very hard.... works a treat! but mine flicks on and off whilst driving, yours could be in a different area!
