As per title. I have a replacement gear knob and gaitor and I am a little stumped on how to remove centre console without damaging it. Do I need to remove the ash tray or can I just remove the gearstick/handbrake surround?

If you are just changing the knob and gaitor, just twist and pull it off. Just watch your face.

The gaiter just clips into the centre console. Small screwdriver and a slight bit of persuasion and it will come off no worries then at the other end, its cable tied to the gear knob. As mark said, thats just on with friction so have a good tug on your knob and it will come...off. Just don't shoot your self in the face!
Seriously though, watch the face!
