upgrade radiator?
#1
The rad on 306 is starting to show is age so before I run out and buy a brand new stock one is there a better one to go for eg. oem fitment but with an extra core, (sometimes export models have extra cores on some cars)

or is there a rad with the right hose locations and bore that will squeeze into the space ( dont mind making brackets up to hold it)

am running a fmic 22psi boost and temps are fine and engine bay has never been orange and wish to keep it that way lol. so i know a stock one will cope with what am running just thinking for future increases in power

cheers

get a nissens alloy radiator, really light and corrosion isn't an issue

car runs at a steady 70 - 75* (raises when ragged) anyways so the rad cooling quite happily at the mo and to be fair i dont rag the car for sustained periods ( just showing a bit of mechanical symphany)
just i know cooling can be issue when running high power in these xuds. was just thinking ahead, might get myself to the scrapy with me tape messure, end of the day will it fit in the hole and is the pipe work in the right place, rest i can take care off

in the past when i used to run tuned petrols used to fit the van variant rads ( escort with a escort van ad) cos u get an extra core, just wondered if there was a simular variant on these 306s or has 6 rad got more cores etc...

I see what you are getting at. I think jp ran a 406 rad but the problem then comes that you have even more weight up front. Just go for a nissens, they are good Smile

not to concered about extra weight i know waters heavy (somet like 1pint = 1lb)
and know some ppl run a fan override to keep things in check but that always feels like a compromise to the rad not been upto the job. but there again if the nissens ally it will transfer heat a lot better than a stock painted one

mmm what to do lol

alloy rad will cope fine unless your holding it at full boost for long amounts of time, in which case the headgasket will go before the radiator. nissens rad, slimline fans with over-ride and you should be fine

As above a Nissens rad will be fine, youd really have to try to cook the car with one of them. If your car is only running at 70 have you considered your stat could be stuck open a little, i had one that ate one of its own seals and stuck open causing similar issues.

There is no good upgrades for the 306 without getting a custom one

yeah i know the stats a bit premature its not stuck open as it gets up to 70 at the rate you would expect ive had jammed stats before and they take a age to warm up like wise the rad stays cold until 70 ish than the stat opens and the rad heats so working the way it should just opening abit lower

so the general opinion is to go for the ally nissen well if everyone has had good experiences with it then that will do for me

quite proud of the fact my engine hasnt been tango'd yet

cheers guys
