Sagging torsion bars?

Sagging torsion bars?

On my phase 1 d turbo, the car looks lower on one side than the other, and i changed the rear dampers recently for new ones, so thought the only thing that could cause this is one of the torsion bars sagging after the many years of use. Is this common in 306s of this age or anything?

i think it is your torsion bar sagging over time not trailing arm bearings, is there play in the arm? or any camber? my 106 is lower one side than the other and i believe that its the bar is gone softer over time or sagged..... gonna be lowering mine soon so goon lower one side more than the other to level it back up agin

When i did the rear shockers, i jiggled the f**k out of the rear wheels and there was no movement and no camber! But i was thinking it was a sagged torsion bar! That's not a bad idea tbf mate!

Might just do the quick bodge and lower one side pal! Easy enough, I say "easy enough" getting the bars out is a nightmare

Only way to really tell is to measure the damper mounting bolts under no load. It would be rare for one side to sag, the suspension isnt independent and a lot of sag would be mopped up by the arb.

Id personally put money on it being the beam collapsing..

The bolt on the bottom of the shocker that connects to the axle? I've heard of torsion bars sagging, and there's no camber on the rear wheels?

I don't understand how it can be the bearings going causing it to sag, I think over time it's lost its tension causing it to drop more should happen evenly really but maybe one side lost its tension quicker? But like you say anti roll bar should take some of it up, my 106 not got an anti roll bar so it's alot lower one side than other 50mm last time I got tape on it!

I wasn't aware that 306's had a rear anti-roll bar, i thought it had 2 torsion bars, one for each wheel..

Easy one!

The ARB is inside the thick (60mm ish) beam tube the torison bars go either side of this. Look at the DIY repair guides, all is explained in the photos.

If the bearings are worn it will sag as the slight movement in the bearings is quite a lot more when it gets to the end of the arm, the space between the bearings and bars being so short.
Custom roll cages/shiny suspension bits/general fabrication work undertaken, PM me.
Top engine mount repair/reinforcement/chocking for cracked chassis and high powered cars, drive in, drive out, 2 hour turnaround.

Usually. It's not really normal for the bars to sag though unless someone has had a blowlamp on them to unsieze them, they're pretty lightly stressed as torsion bars go.

Just what i was thinking! Going to have to stick a GTi-6 rear beam on it at some point anyway!
