Im relocating my battery to the boot, how thick / how many amps does the cable need to be?
Also are the 2 small holes either end at the top of the battery the vent holes?

yes the two small holes are vents. Some batteries come with a rubber pipe you can fix onto these.
You will want a minimum of 20mm and for god sake dont use amp cable! Its a expensive job to do it properly!

Search welding cable on ebay dum, tends to be cheaper than battery cable.
And yeah 35mm stuff is best for diesel.
I will be doing this shortly to make room for fmic piping.

Dum, your earth wants to be the same size as your pos. Obviously you dont need anywhere near as much earth because you can just earth it to the boot somewhere and connect the original battery earth somewhere under the bonnet

Ive just realised im a dick for not searching
Cully do you reckon this would do the trick
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/RED-35mm-240-A...53d9a6ec7f
They do a 10M reel for £56. Might get the 40mm stuff for the earth.
Niall I know not to use amp cable as often its not copper and it tends to be many strands in the cable whereas proper cable has only a few strands of copper
Do you think 240 amp cable would be ok considering our batterys are ~ 540?
Thats only 540 CCA. That cable will be rated at 240 constant draw where as the battery will only pump out 540 CCA for a very brief period. I wouldnt see it as a problem. The current wiring wont be rated at 540

The current wire isnt even as thick as the 20mm2 stuff and mines upgraded over standard already. Standard is tiny compared to the 25mm2 stuff
Cully I might have to post the wire down for some crimping (you wouldnt happen to have a few terminals kicking about?)

But it needs to be bigger chris as the more you extend the run of wire, the resistance increases.
