People that don't know much about cars gave straight into the scrapage scheme. Shame cos no matter how much I advised people not to they all went and got rid of perfectly good motors.

What I hate about the scrappage scheme is how it was painted as an environmental scheme. The pollution caused by driving these older cars is more than outweighed by the pollution caused by making loads of new cars and crushing and disposing of all the scrapped cars! The government lied to us as usual, it was just a way to stimulate the struggling motor industry and save having to subsidise it like they do in France!
What happened to recycling? I hate this country.

i think it should be cheap decent cars are extinct because people often try repair them themselves without a clue as to what they're doing, but thats just my opinion as a technician

I got my ph2 Dtub for £391 on egay in may and the mot still has another 20 days left on it.
The scrappage scheme saw the death of some perfectly good secondhand cars most of which are still stood on dis-used airfields around the country some of them future classics ![]() There are still plenty of cheap cars out there as not everyone could afford to take advantage of the scrappage scheme just probably not what you're after at the moment - keep looking.

I've been hunting recently ... and that's what brought me to my new-to-me pug. I only had a budget of £350 plus what I could get for my MOT failure ... found that £500-£1000 seemed to be more the range for tidier cars. Under £500 you can get ones with MOT and TAX but bodywork has normally gone.
Facebook seemed to have the biggest selections round my area - lots of people selling and swapping ... if I'd had a van I could've got a car weeks ago!! LOL. Ebay cheapies aren't worth it for people travelling and after fees. Anything £50-£150 seem to be going to scrappies pretty quick. Good luck!
