Okay bit of a weird query but bear with me..
I know a couple of you guys have used a 2.25" intercooler kit, obviously this comes with various, straights, bends etc.
I have a few straights left and thought about using one of them for a decat pipe, from those who have the kit do you think it would be thick enough for a decat pipe? Is it the right material to be welded in place of the cat?
Cheers

It is thick enough and will cope with the heat of HDi exhaust fumes but you cant weld ally to mild steel so youd have to clamp it.

The other thing is when you smash it you compress some of the cells togeher and could actually end up making it more restrictive. If you have a friend who can weld its just as free and just as easy to do it properly

I've done a few with a big ass masonry drill bit. Drill a load of holes straight through it, then smash it all out. Whatever you don't get out will just burn off anyway...

Gti one would be better for me. They are the same shape and size etc, only difference is where is connects to the manifold is different. But changing my manifold to a gti one soon anyway

Couldn't you just do what HDi guys do and just cut it open then weld it back up ?

Do it properly and weld a pipe in. The cat itself is worth 30-70 quid.
The petrol ones can be worth considerably more if there genuine.

Personally i wouldnt cut it out as with them talking about changing the MOT rules to mean you have to have the cat fitted youll be screwed if you have a straight pipe. at least if it looks like theres a box your covered at MOT time

Cut it out and keep it in the garage, that way it can always go back in.
