Anyone know if pistons from a T16 lump would suffice a charged '6 lump?
Are they forged? Run lower compression?
Any info with comparability etc would be great.

IIRC the s16 is a 85mm bore, compared to the GTi's 83mm
Could always get it bored out to suit... I'm unsure of the stroke length. I know the gudgeon's are a different size though, so aren't cross compatible between the engines.

This providing you look after it big time. Really to be safe, you want forged over 270-280

Top man; thanks.. As long as there's doubt i shall look into it. But yes, stock T16 internals can run find at 280ish

If that is the case, then you could get away with oversized rings ginge

T16 out of a 405 is also an XU10 block (The 205 T16 is actually an XU8 block, totally unrelated) so shares the same 86x86 layout. However as far as I'm aware, the gudgeon pin is bigger on the T16 pistons, and the rod crank journal width is bigger also so you can't use the rods without the crank...
Why you'd want to do this I'm not overly sure... T16 parts are ludicrously rare and expensive, a set of forged items from the usual suspects would be cheaper!! If you're looking for user budget, why not get a set of 2.0 8vT pistons, decomp from standard and will probably put up with a bit more abuse than stock gti6 pistons, you'll have to get friendly and take out notches for the valves I suspect, but it's cheap...

This T16 pistons I could potentially be getting wouldn't be costing me much at all and would also be checked I've first. If I told you they were coming from a dimma in holland that doesn't use them, you could probably work out who's they are.
There could potentially be rods also so it'd be a matter of finding a compatible crank..

The pistons are no good without the rods. Different size gudgeon, as said. So you will need rods and crank if that is the route you wish to take
Forged standard dimension 6 internals go from £700. Worth a consideration

And you can guarantee that a set of these:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/306-GTi-6-2-0-...5897a4f998
Will be way stronger, fit better, aren't worn... T16 items at the end of the day were made for a ~220hp MAX - they ran 196hp for most of the time with 0.3 bar of overboost back up to the 220hp, they're not exactly extreme performance items anyway, if the ring lands are slightly worn, then you're going to write off the new rings fast, in which case you may as well have saved yourself the cost of the lot and got proper forged items from day one.
If you're actually going to do this, there's NO point in doing a half arsed build... I mean, to look at how relatively difficult it is, look at Nialls GTi6, he supercharged it wanting low-ish power levels and he's run into numerous problems... and he did it properly... Doing it with used pistons with the wrong crank for the engine... Pointless...
