Coilover help

Just bought these yesterday



Few questions as ive never owned coilovers before, how do i work how how low im going with how far i wind the thingy down?? any one no were i can get a CHEAP c spanner from for them?? thats it for now but im sure i can think of more questions any help welcome

Basically yes, wind it down, it goes lower. I would recommend you clean them up and grease them up... You can get C spanners on ebay for £6 ish...

Wd40 to loosen them up, then cooper grease them, then wind then up or down. More copper grease and then fit

As said you really need to clean these up i wouldnt be suprised if they are seized at the hight they are at. But one lowering its a case of put the wheels back on and see how it sits then adjust accordingly

There not seized i checked before i bought them ;-) easyly knock round with a screwdriver and a hammer, do i need to compress the spring to wind them up?? and is it a case of wind them to the top then lower the car down if its to high keep winding down until i get to the right height?? dosent coilovers lower the car like 30mm even at the if there screwed up to the top?? can any one get me a link for a cheap c spanner?? can only find them at about £10 would rather use stilsons or hammer and screwdriver than pay £10

Depends on the coilovers some start at OE hight some at -20mm some at -30mm ect.

No you will not need compressers they will just winde up and down as they are. And i would start some whete in the middle then adjust up or down from there rather than at the top. But you should take them apart and wire brush them 1st 1st. And just use stilsons if your 2 tight to spend an extra £4 but you will wrech the spring seats by doing it like that. Especialy if they are tight

Don't use WD40 as grease, it doesn't lubricate. It's only any good for freeing up stuff that's seized or rusted.

WD40, then copper grease, it'll be fine!

What collies are they out of interest?

Measure your cars standard hight (distance between centre wheel and arch). Then when you've changed them you can adjust to your preference. I think with mine I worked out 3 turns to a cm.

WD40 is for freeing them. GT85 has teflon, so doesn't dry out!

Copper grease is good to stop future seizing up, but not essencial...

Not tight to spend £4 just carnt find a c spanner for less than £10 and im not spending that much.... Any one find me the link for a cheap c spanner????

Oh lol wasn't typing in the right thing then lol

Took the coillys apart this morning gave them a wire brush down cleaned all the threads out so the screw bit gose up and down freely and put them all back together (will cover them in grease when im ready to put em on car)




Found out one of the screw caps that holds the shock in place was lose so tightened that up..........

Dose it matter were the helper spring goes?? can it be at the bottom or top??

ok mate thanks for all the help every one has gave me just ordered new anti roll bar links, and watching a spanner on 99p so nearly set up to get them on :-)

What tyres do you have with your 17"s. I'd recommend 45 pushing 50mm. I recon my front could go a tad but depends on preferences. I know with 17" limit without rolling arches is 60mm.

its on 40 profile tyres i wouldn't think would be able to get 45 profile to fit in the arch?? im not gona slam it to the floor i want it to be practical will be looking to go about 40-50mm all round im thinking
