best to replace them with rubber standoffs and get a fancy nut or a wingnut for the top. that will hold it on no problem!

Cheers guys, you've given me some ideas to ponder over, i quite fancy eeyore's blingy washers and bolts look, using these rubber mounts from Wurth maybe

That's what i bought. I think they're 1cm too short but fit fine

My plan was to get some of these finishing washers...
