How do I go about winter tyres decleration? Do I need to tell them each time I swap them?
There was some arguments over it a few years ago.

Although I can certainly see why you think you wouldn't need to declare it, it's certainly worth your while telling your insurer. They may just note the file to state you have made the change - Modifications don't always make a difference to the price of insurance, it's about making sure you are covered.
I often see posts across the forums where people will say "I don't need to declare X mod because it doesn't make a difference to the car, or 'It's taken from another car of the same manufacturer" for example - But those people are risking driving without valid insurance - Why wouldn't you want to make sure you are completely covered, if the unthinkable happens & you need to claim for your pride and joy, surely you want to make sure you can?

I'll bet the majority aren't fully comp anyway tbh. And even those of us that are for other benefits, most wouldn't claim for our own worthless piece of French scrap lol.
Also, how does anyone know whats standard on an old car? Fair enough I know the specs of most 306s.....but not others! How would my sister/mum/nan know what alloys their car came with from the factory for example? If they're a sensible size and have a Peugeot logo on, they'd assume hem to be standard. Are you saying their insurance would be invalidated because of that?
Not having a go at you btw, I just think car insurance rules in general are daft. You don't have to phone your house insurer if you add a pretty number plaque by your door lol...

Piggy, it's a grey area. My suggestion would be notify the insurer. I highly doubt there will be any change to the policy or premium, but I'd want to cover my own back if I were you.

It's a case of if unsure - Check. Ultimately it's the owners responsibility to declare modifications, obviously mistakes do happen & every case is assessed on it's own merits.
Pleading ignorance won't always wash, if you're driving around in a heavily modifed car & try to say you assumed it was standard - there is without a doubt going to be issues. But like you say Tom, a 40 year old woman who has purchased a car and didn't realise the wheels were taken from a different trim level - that's going to be clear to be a genuine mistake.
Insurance companies aren't going to be cruel, but there's no point taking the risk of losing the cover. We specialise in modified cars & we all love them - so be honest, if people are unsure send us some photos & we'll take a look before insuring - just to make sure we've done everything we can.

So dan, do you know of any insurance companies that can change from fleet to private for next year feb? As my insuance policy runs out then and this year i rang up about 20 companies and none of them could change...

Adrian Flux does like for like on mods and are pretty reasonable. Then there's no reason not to declare it!

are people not forgetting the little morsel of 6 points and up to a £1000 fine, with, additionally chances of you having your car crushed for driving with invalid insurance??
i mean, not declaring a modification with insurance companies means basically your insurance is invalid....

I need to ring up about a few things that im to fit soon. My bosch and new turbo. To be fair they are both off a standard model just wernt on mine so I shouldnt see a problem. Cost me an extra 24 quid for the entire year to lower declare alloys and non stndard filters ie:air filter. Worth ringing really

So I rang up today and they wont cover the new mods even though they were standard fitment items!! I have complained and the have put another question in there underwritters to try and get me insured. If not they can basically shove their policy up themselves ill leave and go else where!!!

Also what really takes the piss is if I did the stuff anyway and had an accident its on file that ive phoned they will run through my car with fine tooth comb. Where as if I wasnt to have said anything they wouldnt have known any diffrence looked under the bonnet and gone. Ok then.

if they do refuse to insure you explain that the part is like for like replacement within the OEM specification of the vehicle, and find demonstrateable evidence of that fact, being replaced with a part that was fitted as standard on the same model's of 306 that you drive.
if they try to charge you a cancellation fee for refusing to insure you then read them the riot act and speak to your bank and ask them to recall the last direct debit if you have it, (after you cancel). also, if they try to charge you the cancellation fee then speak to consumer direct.

Elephant are the same as Admiral, the latter who wouldn't insure me to add an FMIC to my policy. Already have the top mount, would've only been moving it but no. Flux aren't that bothered seeing as I have more stuff on it now.

Just on the direct debit thing I pay full it works out cheaper for me. Ive tried explaining this they have spoken to the underwritters and will get back to me with a final decision but quite frankly ive lost my respect for them. You try and be honest and get screwed, your dishonest and your screwed!!

thats the problem with "average joe" insurance company
tesco had a fit when i said i wanted to lift my other vitara 6inches... BUT in their defense they said they wouldnt insure me if i did, but offered to cancel the policy from a point and date which i set without any charge or admin fees etc.. so that was good
went with adrian flux, as they do the offroading policy and i got club discount..
worked out nciely

YOu never know your new insurer might do an accelerated NCB thing for you, 10 month policy and get a years no claims maybe

I just called Adrian Flux..
Declared the boost gauge and manual boost control valve, no change in premium
Informed them and have it noted that i am going to be swapping the lucas for bosch.. no change in premium as it is a like for like replacement and a standard fitment of parts of a different brand, she said i didnt need even, to note this on the policy, but i asked her to provide an email stating that i had informed them of this just in case (which she was happy to do)

Yeah flux are awesome from my experience, don't usually charge for anything providing it doesn't increase power too much

Yet Admiral are underwriters for some polices through some brokers which allow for quite substantial modifications to the vehicle.
It's all just a big crazy numbers game.
Some countries insure the car with the thought that anyone can drive it.
We insure the driver and the car.
