Driveshaft Intermediate Bearing Problem
#1
Hello,

Not really sure whats happened here...basically the long shaft is sitting out of the box a bit, its meched with the diff and drives fine, but is leaking 'box oil. Sad

Now when I refitted the shaft, the bearing wouldn't go fully in, the nuts got really tight while it was still about 5mm out, so I left it.

I can't work out why it wouldn't go all the way in?

And will it be alright to leave as it is? You can drive fine with the oil below the shaft level anyway lol.

Managed a complete engine change and this is the part I f*ck up! Rolleyes lol

Cheers
Tom

Knock it back out with a big old socket and go over the mating faces with emery cloth, could be something stuck in there.

Knock it out with a socket? My sockets don't have driveshaft slots cut into them. Confused

Really don't want to take it back out if I can help it though. Sad

Oh I see haha.

And you're right jonny, popping and refitting the bjs was a complete ass for some reason though, never had any so tight! Is there another way to do it? Maybe take the whole wishbone from subframe? Much easier to remove and refit that!

Fail. Never assume things... Doh

Turns out its not even that side leaking, its a failed seal on the short shaft side! Dodgy I overestimated the amount the bearing was out, its only about 2mm back from flush so is fine. Will be staying like it anyway.
