Im a little baffled at the moment , Kerry's XSI 's sump oil reeks of petrol, very strong, so first thoughts are that one of the rings are leaking , as it has used maybe 1/4L of oil over the last 6months. so iv done a compression test this evening & the results were as folows
1. 215 psi
2. 220 psi
3. 220 psi
4. 225 psi
All roughly , there or there abouts, now nothing seems seriously wrong there not enough to say a ring has gone??

Overfuelling can allow petrol to pass the the rings and into the oil. Especially on a cold engine when the tolerances are 'worse'.

Yeah, as tom says sounds like it's getting a bit of bore wash when it's cold. Could simply be worn sensors, old CTS etc. Not sure how you'd go about checking it though.

Fuel vapour is always squeezing by the rings a little...one main reason why oil changes are needed...
1/4L over 6months is nothing really, when vauxhall 1.6s burn up to a litre every 2500miles as standard!!

Has it done many long trips recently...?
If not then I'd guess at lots of cold starts combined with short run times when it's on cold enrichment, it'll throw petrol into the oil...
Change the oil, take it for a few good runs and see how it is and monitor how it's driving...

it does like 4mile runs usualy then a 1 40mile round trip (20miles then it sits for 4 hours) so yeah this could well be the case

Check Lambda, CTS and give it a good long drive. Do you get any smoke from the exhaust or oil loss at times?

I heard a busted fuel pressure regulator can cause this.
