206cc Catalyst Warning Light Problem
#1
Not a 306, but a 206! My sisters 206CC, 2 litre petrol version.

Driving back from work today and her engine light comes on, with a message saying 'Catalytic Converter' (I wasn't there so not sure of exact wording)

I'm obviously going to hit google now and look but as it's a Peugeot perhaps a common problem with the petrols? Early results are to see if it just goes away, or perhaps plugs/coilpacks need changing.

Apparently the car was no slower for the warning light and didn't judder/stall at all. So don't think it's the cat itself but something up/downstream of it possibly?

Is it Multiplex or an early car?

Could be a lambada sensor

EOYLS (or what ever the hell it is) fluid. Its a anti pollution fluid that runs out over time and has to be topped up but you can turn the system off with pug planet (i did this with Dumdums 406 coupe).
Or, you can get the fluid from pug but i think its fairly expensive and highly toxic. not nice to change!

EOLYS fluid is only used in DPFs afaik.... So won't be in his petrol 206.....

Ah your right. I had seen it as a fault on the 206 GTi before but ive only just found out they do a GTi HDi!

Yeah its a fairly common problem on most newer diesels tbh, as it should be replaced around 100k or so. The best thing to do is buy a Mk4 Golf TDi or Vectra C CDTi to avoid this as they have no DPF.... lol

Back on topic, I'd also go with lambda at fault, easy to check with a multi-meter...be best to get it sorted sooner rather than later as if it causes over-fuelling that could kill the cat.

My brief stint in a 206gti 180 had that come up all the time after going through a watersplash with a hot exhaust. I presume it buggered the cat up or something. Never bothered to investigate because it was rear ended a few days later lol

Catalytic converter overheat warning probably...

Lambda is nothing to do with the cat or DPF...

If the 2nd lambda sensor reads wrong it can indicate a cat fault to the diag' system...

I'd go with this, if either of the lambda readings is "off" then the diagnostic system is possibly going to report a cat fault.
