RE: Anyone looking for a new turbo? - Dicky - 01-01-2013 Hang on gunna connect some wires to my old k14 and sell it as an Electric Turbo RE: Anyone looking for a new turbo? - cwspellowe - 01-01-2013 I can't believe he paid £155 for it and was going to fit it to his RX8 ![]() RE: Anyone looking for a new turbo? - ozonehostile - 01-01-2013 Why would you want a turbo just to drive a small electric motor? Er, think you got your turbo physics the wrong way round.. RE: Anyone looking for a new turbo? - Niall - 01-01-2013 Now then forgive my ignorance but i dont know a huge amount about turbos. Cant they spin up to about 40,000rpm? If so, i might send him a message for some details/trolling lol RE: Anyone looking for a new turbo? - cwspellowe - 01-01-2013 (01-01-2013, 07:57 PM)Niall Wrote: Now then forgive my ignorance but i dont know a huge amount about turbos. And the rest, my GT was probably up at 150+krpm when it shat itself RE: Anyone looking for a new turbo? - Dicky - 01-01-2013 (01-01-2013, 08:02 PM)cwspellowe Wrote:Maybe thats why it shat itself(01-01-2013, 07:57 PM)Niall Wrote: Now then forgive my ignorance but i dont know a huge amount about turbos. Maybe not advisable but they do do those kinda speeds RE: Anyone looking for a new turbo? - ozonehostile - 01-01-2013 Ah i see, he's got it driving the compressor, apparently haha Might message him to see what he thought it would actually be doing lol RE: Anyone looking for a new turbo? - Dicky - 01-01-2013 (01-01-2013, 08:05 PM)cwspellowe Wrote:Garrett say their turbos usually spin 100,000 - 140,000 rpm, sure i read it somewhere or I'm imagining it(01-01-2013, 08:04 PM)Dicky Wrote:(01-01-2013, 08:02 PM)cwspellowe Wrote: 40krpm?Maybe thats why it shat itself RE: Anyone looking for a new turbo? - Niall - 01-01-2013 Quote:Hi Wait for a reply ![]() Quote:Hi..i havent tried it..but for electric motor to reach such a high revs os practicaly impossible..i wouls say aboutn10000 rev mos..but u can always upgrade motor.. RE: Anyone looking for a new turbo? - Piggy - 01-01-2013 the power draw from the electric motor would be considerable, so much so that I expect there would be a gain in bhp. like those inline fan thingys RE: Anyone looking for a new turbo? - Eeyore - 01-01-2013 interesting.... id like to see what it did if someone did fit it! RE: Anyone looking for a new turbo? - Daniel306 - 01-01-2013 suffocate the engine at anything over idle RE: Anyone looking for a new turbo? - Niall - 01-01-2013 (01-01-2013, 08:56 PM)Piggy1987 Wrote: the power draw from the electric motor would be considerable, so much so that I expect there would be a gain in bhp. Dont know if they gave up on the idea but i know BMW were experimenting with a tri turbo engine for the new m3 one of which was electric. Problem is, the motor needs to be so powerful, its drawing about 80amps so needs a major major alternator on it! Or possibly a second alternator just to drive the turbo. RE: Anyone looking for a new turbo? - Piggy - 01-01-2013 exactly. outwieghs the gains. they tested one of those inline fans in a MR2 once...map before and after...it dipped by nearly 10bhp!! RE: Anyone looking for a new turbo? - cwspellowe - 01-01-2013 Yeah but MightyCarMods tried it with a Datsun iirc and they strapped two leaf blowers to it and it worked. So FU science. Ha ha I remember seeing that!! Or one like it!! gained like 30 odd horsepower RE: Anyone looking for a new turbo? - Dicky - 01-01-2013 (01-01-2013, 09:58 PM)cwspellowe Wrote: Yeah but MightyCarMods tried it with a Datsun iirc and they strapped two leaf blowers to it and it worked.MCM are for the win seriously.
