welded wastegate results t25 - Olly_p - 31-12-2012

I am getting my waste gate welded closed on my t25 who has done this? And what were the results, turbo failure? Or did it boost to 30psi without any issues.

RE: welded wastegate results t25 - silverzx - 31-12-2012

I've been running my welded wastegate T25 at 28 PSI with no issues. Crack on.

RE: welded wastegate results t25 - Olly_p - 31-12-2012

What pump are you using?

RE: welded wastegate results t25 - silverzx - 31-12-2012

Gov + !Dan LDA pinned 9mm Bosch.

RE: welded wastegate results t25 - Ruan - 31-12-2012

Please don't....

RE: welded wastegate results t25 - Piggy - 31-12-2012

I dont get why this is done when a MBC is not expensive and avoids big bangs!!!

Because even with an mbc fitted the exhaust gasses will usually push the wastegate open at ~24psi (depeneding on the type/condition of the actuator) so the choices are eithet a) buy an uprated actuator with a stronger spring or de waste gate. Dewastegate is cheaper and easier so usually the common choice.

RE: welded wastegate results t25 - cwspellowe - 31-12-2012

Cheaper? Yes. Easier? Not really, both as easy as each other, although finding out spring rates can be trial and error.

Personally after recent experiences i'd rather not de-wastegate another turbo ever again. But hey ho.

RE: welded wastegate results t25 - David - 31-12-2012

It all depends how heavy your foot it

RE: welded wastegate results t25 - cwspellowe - 31-12-2012

Mine seems to be rather heavy.

To be honest it was very quick with partial throttle and wee blips, spool was epic, but that one full throttle launch kinda cooked it. I'd rather have a blower that I don't need to consider when putting my foot down though

And that's why you should let me try it this time Wink

Which is why you want a T25. Wink

Indestructible!! Tongue

RE: welded wastegate results t25 - Olly_p - 01-01-2013

I have reached the 25psi point and won't go any more I have a MBC on it.....welding it up is the cheapest option if it blows ill just change it

RE: welded wastegate results t25 - Ricky - 01-01-2013

Maybe look at changing the spring, or even look at the Japanese adjustable actuators on eBay?.. I was doing some research on them and they seem to be pretty good. Kinugawa or something.

^This

I was thinking of getting a Kinugawa one to go with the GT rather than reusing an old T2 actuator or something. You can specify spring rates with them too.

Plus they're shiny, which is always good.

Same, but couldn't find a definate fit, I ended up modifying a TD04 actuator to fit..

RE: welded wastegate results t25 - cwspellowe - 01-01-2013

Yeah i'm having trouble finding one to fit a GT20. It's a lot of money to take a wild punt on, but some have slots instead of bolt holes so could probably be positioned well enough.

RE: welded wastegate results t25 - Jenkosowls - 01-01-2013

my t25 gate is closed up after 2 waste gates kept opening up. Not talking opening up slightly but bouncing on and off to point it couldn't be driven. It's been de waste gates for some 16k now not a single problem and as everyone knows t25 has to pushed to get any where on the xud.

Yup, it's also old technology and bombproof. Dewastegating is fine for those kind of turbos but not on the fancy modern stuff

RE: welded wastegate results t25 - Daniel306 - 02-01-2013

Why not just connect the pipe from the actuator to the vac pump?

RE: welded wastegate results t25 - con67 - 02-01-2013

The no wg people do understand its fuel that technically makes the power and a closed wg means your effectively limiting fuel. Enough fuel for the maximum power on your engine normally results in a broken turbo with wg closed. If your going to the hassle of a big turbo, pump etc you really should TUNE it afterwards for best results and reliability, tuning is being forgotten amongst all the fancy turbo numbers and these cant be tuned without boost control.
Theres no point in being hung like a pornstar if you cant even last a minute lol

This 50x over.

RE: welded wastegate results t25 - Mattcheese31 - 02-01-2013

so how can i squeeze the bastard thing in with my td04 then? . . .i originally wanted to keep it but have been told there's no room .Smile

RE: welded wastegate results t25 - Ruan - 02-01-2013

Just need to make a custom bracket to hold it...

RE: welded wastegate results t25 - cwspellowe - 02-01-2013

OR.. chop chop bash bash.

How big are these TD04's exactly? My GT's have fit down the back with actuators with no issues at all. Or is it more to do with the positioning of the actuator? The GT one sits under the housing like on a T2, does the TD sit above it near the bulkhead?

It fits with actuator.. Slight bashing of the bulkhead on mine.

RE: welded wastegate results t25 - cwspellowe - 02-01-2013

Good to see a bit of bulkhead chopping there Jake lol

welded wastegate results t25 - Jake - 02-01-2013

Standard.
Could have probably got away with leaving it if you were making precision plates up but mine was just chucked together... Mowle left his and now knocks on boost so was worth doing.

RE: welded wastegate results t25 - cwspellowe - 02-01-2013

Yeah I chopped out about 6" of the bulkhead, then realised I didn't actually need to lmao

RE: welded wastegate results t25 - CJ_Derv - 02-01-2013

I have this tempremental knock and smashed it to bits too haha oh well,

running De-wastegated on 9mm n Td04 atm but thinkin of putting actuator on the hybrid turbo im going for next with a 11mm pump
