Bastarding Knock! - Niall - 28-12-2012

Ive got a lovely knock coming from the NSF of my car. Doesnt do it over every bump but when it does, its a fairly big clonk that you can feel through the floor. Occasionally it also does it when you change from forwards to reverse.
Car had new wishbones 1000miles ago (meyle HDs) and has gotten slowly worse since. Now i didnt change the pinchbolts when i changed them so one thought is its the ball joint moving in the hub. Another is the top mount but they are SKF ones and done about 12k so not really old! I havent jacked it up yet and looked but what im wondering is, if its the top mount, if i go and buy just a new bearing, will that be ok? Or could the worn bearing have damaged the mount?

If it's coming from the NSR it won't be your wishbones, balljoints or top mounts sir.

HTH.

Ovalled hub? Mines exactly the same. Been getting progressively worse since I fitted my wishbones.

It could very well be actually. Didnt think about that! Bollocks this is why i hoard parts. I had a good set of 18mm hubs that i got rid of.

The SKF top mounts I changed on mine 18 months ago went about a month ago Niall......replaced them the day before yesterday. The worn bearing on the drivers side hadn't damaged anything so it was just the bearings that got changed.

The knocking that sounded similar to what you describe in your first post has now gone Wink
