oh and Station Auto Services, Hereford. I wouldnt go there either...unless the boss has died from smoking 50 a day while in the workshop next to you when ya draining a fuel tank!!!

I caught a runaway in the estate after the turbo shat itself. It was actually after being careful when the first GT2056 died, I forgot to clean the intercooler out and just as I was heading out for a run after replacing the turbo the revs started hanging, then rising, shut it off and drained the pipes, job done.

so what did I do wrong?? I did as I was told, which is rather important in your first 18mth of apprenticeship, put in unpaid overtime, and rebuilt a engine which I had no influence over blowing?!?!

To be honest, as an employee at the garage it's up to you to do what the gaffer says. If he doesn't tell the customer that then it's not really your problem, as long as the car works you've done your job.
Still, i'd have considered walking pretty quickly if that's the way he treats customers. You're not being dishonest but the business certainly is.

If i was working in a garage dealing with cars in that manner, id be out the door, i spend half my life fixing stupid coyboy coverups that garages do, if your not going to fix it properly, why fix it at all, i just had a c3 this week, with management light blocked with mastic, lamba sensor snipped wires and glued up the sheath to look genuine, and wires pulled out the back of the fusebox...and best thing, all it needed was a new lamba sensor yet the garage went to all that hassle to cover it up and sell it , cant stand crooks like this!

My car takes a ignition feed from the glow plugs, and as some of. Know i was hving idle peoblems a few days ago.
Anyway, my engine would rev really high amd even when i took key out it would continue running!
Till 20 sec later when the feed cut out, the engine too cut out :o which felt risky. So i need to sort out my ignition feed!

Luckily I've never had this happen to my car, but I stopped it happening on my mates Rover 25 TD by chucking it in 5th and repeating dropping the clutch and stalled it.
Was scary as f*ck doing his, I'd be pissed if it was my car though.

we did fix it properly to be fair...full engine rebuild.
but as I said...I quit not long after...shame coz was well equiped and clean and the foreman was great...just crap boss.
I hate them too chap...
mate bought a C2 last year...noticed no abs...and then no abs light. previous owner had stuck tape over it...turns out they had replaced a front wheel bearing with non abs bearing...bodge jobs irritate the hell outa me...weather at home, car or companies selling crap

Yeah. That was scary lol. My fault, had been struggling to start it the previous day and given it a couple of turns of max fuel.
My advice is start the car with no FMIC pipes connected to the inlet so that you dont have the turbo multiplying the issues and if it does run away just bang your hand over the inlet sealing it. Also with no FMIC pipes youve got no chance of it sucking air past the boost leaks.

They do suck pretty hard but I dont think it's pull your hand through mate!
But as soon as you get a decent seal theres no oxygen for the engine to burn anymore anyway, should stop almost instantly.I thought my HDi was running away like this the other day, I let off throttle and the car sped up! Nearly shat myself but blipped the throttle and it dropped back to idle so was just a dodgy/sticky sensor lol...phew!

Its not on a runaway car really. Ive heard stories of peoples fingers getting broken doing it as the forces involved are pretty huge, mine sucked the glove off jonnys hand and tried ripping the gloves off mine. The force on mine was split between 4 inlet runners as the UIM was off.
At 6000rpm (runaway engine speed) the engine is trying to suck in 100L of air a second, double that it its at a bar of boost at the time. And imagine the force involved if you look at it as 100-200L of water trying to flow through a 60mm pipe in 1 second and you see the force involved.

Ive had this years ago with a escort 1.8td. randomly in maccy d's drive throught just ran away with the revs from idle went mental wouldnt stop for ages didnt know what was happening and then cut out and there was a massive black cloud behind me. scary stuff. The car worked for a while after that then no more.
