master cylinder, the right one? - Ricky - 24-12-2012 I'm fed up of buying used master cylinders to find they are broken. Been looking at ECP, the gti 6 one that's 23.8mm non abs. It says 4 port, I don't understand if that's the right one for my car (dturbo non abs) Anyone know for sure before I get one? RE: master cylinder, the right one? - samass - 24-12-2012 Just look under your bonnet, if there are four lines coming off your mc, then its the right one. RE: master cylinder, the right one? - Ricky - 24-12-2012 I only have 2 coming off the side. I can't find a 2 port one in the 23.8mm size though :/ RE: master cylinder, the right one? - samass - 24-12-2012 Yeah, don't think they a two port '6 mc... Might be wrong tho, tried gsf? Alternatively you could get some blanks and block off the other ports? Someone like swampy would be able to het you bolts with the right thread I'd have thought. RE: master cylinder, the right one? - Ricky - 24-12-2012 I'm confused by this because I have fitted a '6 MC with just the two line connections. Will look on gsf website Actually in the picture it seems to show blanking plugs, so maybe the 4 port will be ok. Hmm, never thought this would be so confusing! haha RE: master cylinder, the right one? - samass - 24-12-2012 Oh right, odd! I stand corrected then haha any idea of the car you got the second hand ones from? Might be able to get a part from the reg number if you know it? RE: master cylinder, the right one? - Ricky - 24-12-2012 No idea what car they are from unfortunatly. RE: master cylinder, the right one? - samass - 24-12-2012 Ah, too bad... Well, I'd reckon the 4 port One would be fine so long ad you can blank off the other ports properly master cylinder, the right one? - Frosty - 24-12-2012 I'm pretty sure that 306 mc only ever come as 2 port RE: master cylinder, the right one? - CJ_Derv - 24-12-2012 Ive got a 2 port 6 MC sat here ready to go on, would it be 2 port then the abs pump splits it off? i may be wrong RE: master cylinder, the right one? - Ricky - 24-12-2012 Apparently mine is an ABS one which is two.port, I might go ECP later and have a look at one instead of relying on their rubbish website RE: master cylinder, the right one? - cwspellowe - 24-12-2012 ABS MC is two port, ABS pump then splits that into four. If you're a boss like me you'll have ripped the ABS out and fitted 302mm brakes off a two port MC with tee pieces fitted. Snap off/on brakes ftw! RE: master cylinder, the right one? - samass - 24-12-2012 Chris, is that gti specific? Cuz my xsi had a 4 port mc with abs.... RE: master cylinder, the right one? - cwspellowe - 24-12-2012 I wouldn't know anything about poor people cars Sam. RE: master cylinder, the right one? - samass - 24-12-2012 Yeah yeah... RE: master cylinder, the right one? - cwspellowe - 24-12-2012 Apart from the fact the estate started life as a phase 2 with no foglights, grey cloth interior, black door handles, no sunroof, steel wheels. Poorest of the poor. I also have no idea what MC was on it as it was thrown in the bin almost immediately. Pretty sure it was a two port one thinking about the crap I ripped out. RE: master cylinder, the right one? - Kwik - 29-12-2012 be careful about getting the 2 port as the one i got had different sized screw holes. in my case the easiest thing to do was just change it like for like which was 22.2mm abs one and just doing that showed how f'd my old one was RE: master cylinder, the right one? - swampy - 29-12-2012 As said abs should only be a two port mc then the abs splits it in to four feeds RE: master cylinder, the right one? - Ricky - 29-12-2012 But even like for like seems difficult as they are all coming up as 4 port, my standard One without abs is 2 port. Why can't things be simple!? RE: master cylinder, the right one? - swampy - 29-12-2012 Non abs should be four port Uses a split diagonal system to build a safety circuit in RE: master cylinder, the right one? - Ricky - 29-12-2012 Mines 2 port which then tee's off further down the bulkhead. RE: master cylinder, the right one? - swampy - 29-12-2012 I would honestly say that you have the wrong mc on there RE: master cylinder, the right one? - Ricky - 29-12-2012 hmm, the lines look completely standard. Maybe just typical randomness of Peugeot? RE: master cylinder, the right one? - Kwik - 30-12-2012 when i got mine from gsf it was a four port but came with 2x 11mm blanks to blank off the other sides. i also had to change the top seals for the original ones as they were slightly different design. but make sure both holes are the same size unless yours are different off course RE: master cylinder, the right one? - Jake949 - 02-01-2013 my non abs only has 2 ports too, then splits with t peices by the steering rack. RE: master cylinder, the right one? - Ruan - 02-01-2013 Ricky - I've got a GTi 2 port MC sat wrapped in my rucksack - if you want it you can have it for postage? RE: master cylinder, the right one? - darrenjlobb - 02-01-2013 Not all of the non abs ones are 4 port...infact im yet to ever work on one that is... From what ive seen most are 2 port with & pieces on the bulkhead... RE: master cylinder, the right one? - CJ_Derv - 02-01-2013 Whats required to get rid of abs pump then? as mine doesnt seem to work but did once when was a bit icey but think a f*cked disks on front are causing it to lock up RE: master cylinder, the right one? - darrenjlobb - 02-01-2013 Dont remove the abs pump because garages doing MOT's now have database access to show which cars need to have ABS / Traction control fitted....it dosnt need to work provided th light on the dash comes on / goes off, but needs to be fitted... |
