Dash bulbs....?!? :huh: - Piggy - 14-12-2012

I wondered if anyone has the info or can remember...

I will be changing my dash lights, colour/LED...

but dont want to have to take apart me dash to see what bulbs I need and how many, put it back together while I wait for them to arrive and then do it all again!

I know the bulbs I need for the instrument cluster....but how many?

I dont know what bulbs and how many I need for the centre console though, the heater controls, clock and switches....anyone know?

Anyone also got the link or can tell me off for not searching hard enough for changing the bulbs in the electric window switches!!

286 or 509t bulbs. They seem to be the same lol. Loads behind the clocks, can't remember exactly but over 10. 2 in the time/temp display. 2 in the heater panel - but the newer heater panels have 'reverse' 509t bulbs in them.
Don't know if different phases have different number of bulbs but this is the ph3 HDi clocks.

These are the reverse ones Tom mentioned, for the heater panel itself......this company does several colours, my red ones are still going strong nearly 2yrs later.

Just buy the 286 bulbs mate, the originals pull out of their holders (apart from the reverse ones for heater panel, they're fixed).

I know this thread is from a while back but I need to change a few bulbs behind my dash. First,y how hard is it to remove the dash? Also my battery light is one that needs replacing, do I need a coloured bulb or is it a normal white bulb?

not hard, drop steering wheel down, remove cluster trim, few torx screws, bulbs are normal but red ones work very well if you prefer Smile

Piece of cake. I've had it out a few times. I tend to remove the steering wheel as it only takes a few mins and saves a lot of hassle imo. Just a normal bulb is fine for warning lights. As mentioned, red bulbs do look better for the speedo backlight but i'm biased ;-)

This thread sent shivers down my spine, I almost set my Derv estate on fire changing these things. the LEDs just wouldn't light up! 4,126,313,984,896 adjustments later, the clocks short circuited and melted a wire in the loom!

All removed, looks like there's a few bulbs and holders missing though, after looking at the picture from a bit further up in this thread it looks like there's 2 missing from the middle. Is every slot supposed to be filled?    

Also is it ok to plug the battery back in with steering wheel removed? Just so i can check if the bulbs are working, only asking as the air bag is removed and don't wanna cause any problems.

I think you're missing airbag light and Eml maybe? But no, not every hole is filled.

window switches i did a nice guide on how to do this but the forum has lost it!
they are LED's that need changing if you want a different colour Wink

I've replaced just the bulbs but they don't seem to be working? Do you need to replace the bulbs and holders or is there a specific way to put bulbs in?

if theyre leds they only work one way round.

it's just the battery one and handbrake light that don't seem to illuminate tried a few times but don't want to go down the same route as you cpikey so I'll buy some bulbs and holders see if that works.

Do you just pull the heater control face off to access the bulbs? I've done the speedo and clock/temp display. Just the heater control left
