RHF5 IHI Turbo ** Updated with pictures can someone help asap!** - GP123 - 09-12-2012 I have a RHF5 IHI Turbo lying here, its off a 3.1TD Isuzu trooper jeep. Ages ago a 306 manifold was put onto it and i just came across it again. Im wondering is it worthwhile looking into again? as in would it work lol. Any help welcomed.. Edit** Picture of turbo in question.. RE: RHB5 IHI Turbo - cwspellowe - 09-12-2012 Looks like a Garrett T series substitute to me? Post the serial numbers and i'll do some digging for jew RE: RHB5 IHI Turbo - Piggy - 09-12-2012 duno...........but you wana sell? RE: RHB5 IHI Turbo - GP123 - 09-12-2012 i will go out now and get some numbers off it, only 15k miles on it! ![]() RE: RHB5 IHI Turbo - cwspellowe - 09-12-2012 ![]() There's the compressor map fella, looks a bit on the small side to me? Also the VJ11 i can see implies it's from a 2.0 Ford Probe. Massively inefficient at anything over 20psi or so so wouldn't be ideal for big boost, and the flow rate isn't amazing either RE: RHB5 IHI Turbo - GP123 - 09-12-2012 Turbo Spec- VIDF 0411 Serial Number- RHF5 29011R Parts Number- 8972572000 RE: RHB5 IHI Turbo - cwspellowe - 09-12-2012 Ahh so that's not the one in the picture? ![]() Also that's an RHF5 not an RHB5.. RE: RHB5 IHI Turbo - Dave - 09-12-2012 Looking at that compressor map, it looks very similar to a td04 13g tbh. A 13g starts its efficiency at about 125-150cfm, and holds on until around 250ish, which again is very similar to that turbo - give it a whirl ![]() RE: RHB5 IHI Turbo - cwspellowe - 09-12-2012 Nuh-uh Dave, the turbo's only 60% efficient at 28psi (PR=3) and 240cfm Wouldn't like to run that at chronic boost tbh, wouldn't see much gain flow-wise over much lower psi RE: RHB5 IHI Turbo - GP123 - 09-12-2012 Sorry RHF5 i meant lol.. so you think its not worthwhile putting on or making it work? RE: RHB5 IHI Turbo - Dave - 09-12-2012 Yeh but the turbo efficiency drop of 15% would definitely be outweighed by the volumetric efficiencies gained through running an extra 8psi at the manifold ![]() ![]() RE: RHB5 IHI Turbo - cwspellowe - 10-12-2012 (09-12-2012, 11:14 PM)GP123 Wrote: Sorry RHF5 i meant lol.. so you think its not worthwhile putting on or making it work? Think it's the TD04's have water cooling jackets on them? RE: RHF5 IHI Turbo ** Updated with pictures can someone help asap!** - GP123 - 31-12-2012 Nice wee picture to show the difference to be made ![]() ![]() RE: RHF5 IHI Turbo ** Updated with pictures can someone help asap!** - GP123 - 08-01-2013 Well i got the kkk out the other day and took the exhaust elbow off it (as i needed it for the trooper turbo anyway) and a chewed up, well part of a propellor fell out lol. Anyway i found out i needed a flange made for the end of the low pressure line, so wasnt so bad everything else seems to be bolting straight on! One last question would be do i need to cover up the water line holes? Or will they be grand open? I dont plan on running water lines to it as when i get the turbo back i just want to get it on to fook and fire her up. RE: RHF5 IHI Turbo ** Updated with pictures can someone help asap!** - Ruan - 08-01-2013 Don't worry about the water holes, will be good left open ![]() RE: RHF5 IHI Turbo ** Updated with pictures can someone help asap!** - GP123 - 08-01-2013 Cheers mate. I had to weld the wastegate closed just as i couldnt get the actuator on at all! :/ dont think its the right one. Just worrying cause i just have the standard tmic on. But my mate has a scania turbo in his and it goes at 2 bar no problem.. Will update either this thread or my cars thread whenever i get it on and if all works out hopefully get it put on a rolling road to see what its doing.. |
