Help! Put the wrong oil filter on... - burnmw - 09-12-2012 Hey all, I've got a 1.9TD (306), and the GF has a 2.0HDi (90BHP 307, i.e. 306 in a shiny skin). And I had the service kit for both in the garage, went and swapped the oil and filter on mine, went back to the garage to tidy up and realized my oil filter is still in the box :blink: Cue plenty of head scratching before the penny finally dropped. Now, I don't have any more oil, so I can't just switch them back over. Will I be safe to run with the oil filter off the 2.0 on my 1.9TD? It went on fine, I'm almost certain that the diameter of the two is identical and it did up fine so I think the threads are the same. The HDi one is slightly longer. Any one know if I'll be OK? All I can think logically is that the oil filter plays no real "moving" part, all it does is filters crap out of the oil so it shouldn't matter as long as it fitted OK and isn't leaking (which it doesn't appear to be). RE: Help! Put the wrong oil filter on... - Chris - 09-12-2012 There both the same anyway tbh. Wouldn't worry about it. Pug part nos are all the same for the xu and dw engines anyway iirc RE: Help! Put the wrong oil filter on... - burnmw - 09-12-2012 Really? That's what I was hoping some one would say ![]() RE: Help! Put the wrong oil filter on... - Niall - 09-12-2012 dont worry about it. A bit of crap in the engine never hurt anyone ![]() RE: Help! Put the wrong oil filter on... - Matt - 09-12-2012 Should be fine ![]() (09-12-2012, 05:38 PM)Niall Wrote: dont worry about it. Put the wrong oil filter on... - burnmw - 09-12-2012 Idiot, if I'd thought about it I'd have checked ECP or something first to see if the part numbers were the same... Sometimes I panic far too easily! Cheers all ![]() RE: Help! The difference is, I'm not a mechanic, never trained as one and only doing it as a hobby. So ![]() Cheers again all, so glad I've not got to swap them over! RE: Help! Put the wrong oil filter on... - 306Puggy - 09-12-2012 I thought you were an MOT tester? Surely you have to be a mechanic to become an MOT tester? RE: Help!
