Speedo whirring - ginge191 - 05-12-2012

As titled; i'm getting a pretty awful whirring noise coming from behind my speedo.

It does NOT make the noise once i've picked up a certain temperature/been running the car for a while, but can often start again once i start moving after being on standstill for a while.

It gets louder as i drive faster and sends the reading on the dash mad (i hit 120mph+ apparently the other day)

Any ideas??

Speedo cable not properly attached? Either that or the speedos fuu fuu fuu unserviceable :p

RE: Speedo whirring - samass - 05-12-2012

sounds like broken/worn gears at the back of the speedo. presumably cable driven?

RE: Speedo whirring - ginge191 - 05-12-2012

yeh it's cable driven; i don't think the cable is broken because it doesn't happen ALL the time, only since it has got chillllly!

RE: Speedo whirring - samass - 05-12-2012

lube it up then, might just be the grease being cold and stiff and not actually lubing it

remove, strip, clean, lube, replace. id reckon that'd help
