Civic vtec b16 blahblah and what not - Tom - 11-11-2012 Went out in a type r the other night and really wish i didnt because now i feel i need to own something that makes that noise to make my life complete :/ B16a2? Good engine? Anyone been in one? Quick? fuel economy? etc. Cheers RE: Civic vtec b16 blahblah and what not - cwspellowe - 11-11-2012 Type R's really do sound epic when screaming. I remember when I had my 1.1 106 and my mate overtook me on a motorway sliproad, felt a right twat with my barryboy straight through exhaust vs his screamer ![]() RE: Civic vtec b16 blahblah and what not - Ruan - 11-11-2012 Typical Honda engine, needs to be absolutely annihilated to go anywhere fast, make a god awful noise most of the time apart from on full throttle at 9000rpm, naff all torque... Depends what you're into I suppose... RE: Civic vtec b16 blahblah and what not - Tom - 11-11-2012 Yeah it sounds porn, People say there slow and stuff but i went out in a mates and he was keeping with my other mate in his scooby through bendys, it was quicker than i expected after hearing people say there slow and a 6 is faster lol RE: Civic vtec b16 blahblah and what not - karl1989 - 11-11-2012 they do sound nice on v-tec. got a video with me coaling a type-R ![]() ![]() RE: Civic vtec b16 blahblah and what not - Niall - 11-11-2012 a 6 will keep neck and neck. the reason why it kept up with your mates scooby in the bends is because scoobys really dont handle as well as scooby owners will tell you. IMO anyway! Just like waiting for a turbo to spool really. And as said torque isn't a lot my cousions got a 169 bhp b16 but 128 ft"lb ![]() RE: Civic vtec b16 blahblah and what not - Poodle - 12-11-2012 No torque and thirsty as hell if you drive them on cam, also look horrible imo. Dread to think what the insurance is like. That said they're very reliable, sound awesome and there's a massive after-market scene, so pretty easy to tune. RE: Civic vtec b16 blahblah and what not - declantg - 12-11-2012 Civics are car porn end of discussion. If I had the chance I would have an ek9 over a 306, I said it :/ RE: Civic vtec b16 blahblah and what not - C.A.R. - 12-11-2012 They are great on track I have no doubt, but like any engine with a higher cam profile or 'lift' they are very tiresome to drive on the road. My Celica was marginally slower than an EP3 (but infinitely better looking :p ) yet it was incredibly difficult keeping pace with things like a 182 Clio and even one of those Merc Kompressor coupe things, purely cos it had no torque. It only became really fast by the time you were in 4th, by which point you were in 3 figures and it walked most things, but who can do those speeds regularly? RE: Civic vtec b16 blahblah and what not - C2K - 12-11-2012 Could always slap a turbo on there. Seem to be able to turbo justabout anything Honda made in the 80s/90s and early 00s. This is very true, there is a thread on PistonHeads of a project Honda Accord 2.2 lump with a massive turbo strapped on it. Goes like stink by all accounts, 600bhp at last count iirc! RE: Civic vtec b16 blahblah and what not - lewisdmz - 12-11-2012 Always fancied one when I was younger, now the only older one I would consider would be a minty ek9 or the import EG thing (SiR?). RE: Civic vtec b16 blahblah and what not - C.A.R. - 13-11-2012 I wouldn't say no to a nice FD2 JDM Type R... ![]() RE: Civic vtec b16 blahblah and what not - Tom - 13-11-2012 (12-11-2012, 10:53 PM)lewisdmz Wrote: Always fancied one when I was younger, now the only older one I would consider would be a minty ek9 or the import EG thing (SiR?). Arent the ek9's the stupidlly expensive ones? RE: Civic vtec b16 blahblah and what not - Pete - 13-11-2012 Yep! Good ones are going for over 5k! Regarded as the best handling hot hatch ever by many though. Even the EK VTis/Jordans do good money now, wanted a Jordan before I got my first GTi6. RE: Civic vtec b16 blahblah and what not - lewisdmz - 13-11-2012 VTi's are a bit wet aren't they? I imagine a 6 would tear them a new one? But for a 202bhp car that cant get away from a 167bhp car thats twice its age its pretty fecking poor RE: Civic vtec b16 blahblah and what not - Midnightclub - 14-11-2012 It's due to the power delivery and extra weight, they don't make there peak power til over 8,000 RPM iirc RE: Civic vtec b16 blahblah and what not - Dicky - 14-11-2012 (14-11-2012, 12:53 PM)puglove Wrote:(14-11-2012, 12:48 PM)Dicky Wrote:(13-11-2012, 06:21 PM)lewisdmz Wrote: VTi's are a bit wet aren't they? My mates VTi smashed an EP3 though :S RE: Civic vtec b16 blahblah and what not - Tom - 14-11-2012 It depends on the conditions and the drivers, you cant really compare like that. Top gear test track with the stig would be the only way to tell haha! RE: Civic vtec b16 blahblah and what not - Kwik - 14-11-2012 lol at all the vtec wanters i got a 600 ninja that out screams any civic as it goes to 14k and gets to 150mph in 30 seconds.........just saying lol RE: Civic vtec b16 blahblah and what not - Tom - 14-11-2012 Theres a thundercat in my back garden, not mine but i ride it sometimes, bikes are quick but they dont sound as cool as vtec. :p RE: Civic vtec b16 blahblah and what not - Kwik - 14-11-2012 (14-11-2012, 05:56 PM)Tom Wrote: Theres a thundercat in my back garden, not mine but i ride it sometimes, bikes are quick but they dont sound as cool as vtec. :p they sound cooler i know lol :p RE: Civic vtec b16 blahblah and what not - karl1989 - 14-11-2012 heres a civic i had a play with. didnt last long as he got on top end ![]() ![]() ![]() RE: Civic vtec b16 blahblah and what not - Matty - 14-11-2012 Lack of coal there sir.
