old school temperature gauge... - samass - 07-11-2012

Ok so I bought this old gauge off eBay dirt cheap, but I can't figure out how I'm meant to wire it in?
Here's some pics

That one wire coming out isn't really a wire, its a very small copper tube, is that meant to have water flowing directly into it or something?

Should say, this is for 106 nad, cuz, ya know, RaceCar

picture of the other end of the copper bulb?

it is a capilary type of gauge normaly you would take a hose off push the copper bulb into the pipe and put the hose back on tight

the water flows over the bulb expanding the liquid inside moving the nedle
there is no wiring only the ilumination but that looks to be missing

Ah ok, so presuming the bulb is meant to be on the end of this then?

That end is just open

thats f*cked! looks like the bulb has been cut off
the copper thin pipe should be long enought to go into the engin bay water pipe from the cabin

but to check go put the end in a boiling kettle and watch the gauge

ah thought as much. ah well, only cost me 3 quid, so no loss! ill check it with the kettle when i can be bothered to get out of bed lol
hopefully it works, it does look cool!

Gauge didn't move when stuck in a mug of just boiled water, ah well.

You reckon you can spares for these things? Or should I just keep it a mantle piece ornament and source another gauge?

if the pipes cut its not repairable
only good for door stops or bookends now

It's got the right increments to be used as a speedo in the nad... Or a rev counter... Becauseracenad

rev counter? Why? Just rev it till it won't rev anymore!
