Gti6 struts - wiggy - 06-11-2012 Right, Ive got a set of gti6 struts in the shed at the min and was wonderi what gains would I get fitting then to my dturbo and would they fit? I have the hubs aswell but there the bigger ball joint fitting. Thanks RE: Gti6 struts - samass - 06-11-2012 stiffer dampers RE: Gti6 struts - Niall - 06-11-2012 stiffer dampers, stiffer springs and slightly lower. RE: Gti6 struts - wiggy - 06-11-2012 So there just better dampers? Cause ive got 40mmapex springs on the dturbo struts atm so would it be just a case off swapin the spring? And would they fit into the dtub hubs or am I going to have stop being tight and go buy a set of bigger ball joints? RE: Gti6 struts - Niall - 06-11-2012 they will fit in the hubs fine. The shock clamp on the hub is the same diameter on all 306s so no worries there. Yeah you could just swap the springs and fit them RE: Gti6 struts - wiggy - 06-11-2012 Cheers mate thats my day planed tmw lol RE: Gti6 struts - Toms306 - 06-11-2012 Would you actually notice the difference with GTi shocks on say a HDi with 40mm drop? Has anyone else done it? RE: Gti6 struts - wiggy - 06-11-2012 Yeah would it be noticable? RE: Gti6 struts - Niall - 06-11-2012 should be. there is a noticeable difference between the two so unless their shot, it should be all good! RE: Gti6 struts - Toms306 - 06-11-2012 Anyone got any cheap standard gti struts going spare then? ![]() RE: Gti6 struts - Niall - 06-11-2012 i have. samass is looking after them at the moment. maybe if he pays me one day, he can keep them! RE: Gti6 struts - Scott - 06-11-2012 I do as well Tom unless Ed decides he does actually want them. You could always come and get them, I'm about an hour and a half away ![]() RE: Gti6 struts - Niall - 06-11-2012 (06-11-2012, 10:32 PM)Scott Wrote: I do as well Tom unless Ed decides he does actually want them. You could always come and get them, I'm about an hour and a half away this. and kim does make a really good bacon and egg sandwich! RE: Gti6 struts - Toms306 - 06-11-2012 Lol...yeah maybe if I had a pd again....but the HDi costs too much to do any more 'long' trips this year.... :/ 13.5 pence a mile atm. ![]() Works out cheaper to have stuff posted lol. Thanks for the offer, need to shift the damn Avensis so I have some monies first though lol. RE: Gti6 struts - Oil-burner - 06-11-2012 Hasn't the Hdi dturbo got the same suspension setup as the '6? Infact I remember reading the dturbo has thicker torsion bars than the GTI so would you actually see any difference between the two? RE: Gti6 struts - Scott - 06-11-2012 Tom it'd cost you about £25 in fuel to get to mine and back ![]() RE: Gti6 struts - Scott - 06-11-2012 And no the DTurbo definitely doesn't have thicker torsion bars (HDi DTurbo or 1.9 DTurbo) as standard. You may be thinking about the estate as some of the later ones did come with 21mm torsion bars ![]() RE: Gti6 struts - Toms306 - 06-11-2012 Oh I'm not saying it wouldn't be worth it, I used 40 quid of diesel in 3 days last weekend, and yeah it was totally worth it.....but I couldn't really afford it lol, looked at my bank this week and was like....oh crap, better avoid going out or eating thus week then ....lol. ![]() I know people will say don't spend on a car then....but its a different account. I 'try' to only use fuel or food that I've earnt in that week.....keep the car stuff totally seperate though. ![]() RE: Gti6 struts - Eeyore - 06-11-2012 (06-11-2012, 10:42 PM)Scott Wrote: Tom it'd cost you about £25 in fuel to get to mine and back does it? ill have to make the trip at some point then! ![]() Also what scott said. Some of the estates came with bigger TBs. Presumably because estates are pure win! RE: Gti6 struts - Niall - 06-11-2012 the late hdi dturbo did have the gti setup but did not have thicker bars than the gti. only car to have was the very late estates...and cars with pug sport bars of course RE: Gti6 struts - Scott - 06-11-2012 Yeah for sure ![]() RE: Gti6 struts - Niall - 06-11-2012 (06-11-2012, 10:53 PM)Scott Wrote: Yeah for sure yeah 90 through town...sod going through town to yours! RE: Gti6 struts - Scott - 06-11-2012 Nah mate, that's around the M25 and in on the A1 ![]() RE: Gti6 struts - Niall - 06-11-2012 (06-11-2012, 10:55 PM)Scott Wrote: Nah mate, that's around the M25 and in on the A1 really? its about 85 from mine! suppose its just the same journey just the other way round (ive heard you like it the other way round..giggidy) RE: Gti6 struts - Scott - 06-11-2012 I'll go whatever way around gets me there the quickest and with as few stops as possible along the way... *giggidy* RE: Gti6 struts - Niall - 06-11-2012 (06-11-2012, 10:58 PM)Scott Wrote: I'll go whatever way around gets me there the quickest and with as few stops as possible along the way... Im so wet right now! RE: Gti6 struts - wiggy - 06-11-2012 right so are we agreed that it will defo make a differance in handling its already got the gti rear axle on so it only makes sense to put the struts on aswell RE: Gti6 struts - Niall - 06-11-2012 if you want to go for a slight more of a upgrade, for £100 you can get a set of bilstein B4 shocks. You wont believe how much nicer it feels just to have new shocks that dont feel tired. would recommend that anyday if you want to spend out! RE: Gti6 struts - Toms306 - 06-11-2012 Yeah do it wiggy! So you can tell me if it makes a difference. ![]() RE: Gti6 struts - samass - 06-11-2012 (06-11-2012, 10:25 PM)Niall Wrote: i have. samass is looking after them at the moment. maybe if he pays me one day, he can keep them! ah, yeah, bout that... fooby has the top mounts, the springs are in like 4 pieces, and one of the dampers stanchion is in two pieces, one of which, is now a handy drift! |
