Electrical gremlin - brake lights - ginge191 - 03-11-2012 Brake lights arn't working on the 205 - completely stumped by this. So the rear clusters ARE working (reverse, indicators, night lights and fog lights) yet the rear brake lights don't work. Checked the fuse - fine Checked the switch behind the pedal (multimeter tested) - fine Checked bulbs - fine Checked earth - only one earth 'plug' for the back and its intact and clean Checked plugs and socket on rear brake light cluster - fine Also, when any electric item goes on or activates when having the radio on, it interferes (ol'skooool), so for example, i turn the wiper on, the radio gets interefered, as with the headlights, fans etc - and is the same when i press the brake, so there is 'something' there, just notillumination at all. any ideas? Electrical gremlin - brake lights - Jonny b - 03-11-2012 Defo earth related bud well the interference is anyways run a couple of new fresh earth points and check the cars main earths RE: Electrical gremlin - brake lights - C2K - 03-11-2012 You have a cabin earth awry somewhere i expect - can't be too many of them on a 205. RE: Electrical gremlin - brake lights - ginge191 - 03-11-2012 hm ok; i'll have a look around for any earth points - get the haynes out. As said, the earth in the back was perfect - hence the other lights working, so is there likely to be another earth point in the front somewhere? RE: Electrical gremlin - brake lights - C.A.R. - 03-11-2012 On a 306 there is an earth point in the drivers footwell for example. No idea on a 205 though RE: Electrical gremlin - brake lights - vincent1 - 03-11-2012 how many wires are on the brake light switch if 2 can you link them together and see if the lights are on? RE: Electrical gremlin - brake lights - Niall - 03-11-2012 Definitely sounds like a earth issue with the interference. Or that could be totally unrelated and you could just have a broken wire somewhere! Either way, good luck! Thing is, they worked for about, 10 minutes once when we first attempted to fix it - when they worked, all we done was take everything apart that i've said above and put it back together again... RE: Electrical gremlin - brake lights - Poodle - 04-11-2012 That's almost certainly got to be a bad connection somewhere, no? Top marks; i knew there was an electrician in this forum somewhere... I know it's a dodgy connection as everything else is intact and it WAS working at one point, but checking all the points, i can't think what else to look at RE: Electrical gremlin - brake lights - Poodle - 06-11-2012 Oh fair enough, i take it you've tested all the wires and refreshed all your plugs/sockets then? |
