How to Scrap the Mk4 Shell?? - Toms306 - 02-11-2012

Hi,

So, its competely stripped now. Looks like the scrappy won't pay if they have to collect stuff like that sooo is it worth cutting it up? And what would I use....I'm guessing a hacksaw wouldn't be ideal. Confused lol

Any ideas?

Cheers
Tom

an angle grinder ....

RE: How to Scrap the Mk4 Shell?? - THE_Liam - 02-11-2012

Plasma torch, Stijl saw, dynamite...

RE: How to Scrap the Mk4 Shell?? - Toms306 - 02-11-2012

They won't Matt, would've done if I was in town but as it takes atleast half hour drive its not worth them doing it. They'll pick it up free though!

Dynamite isn't really an option. lol Basically I don't have a tool for this....would need to borrow/buy something so what would be best without costing too much?

RE: How to Scrap the Mk4 Shell?? - karl1989 - 02-11-2012

Don't suppose anyone has a stihl saw I can borrow then? They're well expensive!

RE: How to Scrap the Mk4 Shell?? - Danny2009 - 02-11-2012

Still saw or just let someone collect it for free that's what I do Cba with the hassle!

RE: How to Scrap the Mk4 Shell?? - Toms306 - 02-11-2012

What, and I thought you were northern?? Throwing money away like that! Confused

RE: How to Scrap the Mk4 Shell?? - strictly_perv - 02-11-2012

A mate of mine had cut up his E36 bare shell with a large angle grinder and trailered it to the scrapyard, think he got about £60 for it.
If you going to need to hire tools out I wouldn't even bother as a Golf bare shell would probably be lighter.

RE: How to Scrap the Mk4 Shell?? - Matt - 02-11-2012

Scrap? I'll be over with my transit in the morning

RE: How to Scrap the Mk4 Shell?? - 306carter - 02-11-2012

Look for those signs near traffic lights that say scrap cars bought for cash. I got £40 for a Saxo shell they hiabed it away.

Tbh this is what I was thinking.

Kinda annoying as there's like 50 quid or so if scrap in it....but it'd cost that to get s tool for it. :/

Never seen any of those lol!

RE: How to Scrap the Mk4 Shell?? - Jonny81191 - 02-11-2012

scrap metal merchants usually collect stuff!

RE: How to Scrap the Mk4 Shell?? - Toms306 - 02-11-2012

They will collect it.....but not pay anything for it.

RE: How to Scrap the Mk4 Shell?? - Jonny81191 - 02-11-2012

RE: How to Scrap the Mk4 Shell?? - Jonny81191 - 02-11-2012

axe?

as said in the chatbox, an arc welder and burn through it?

chainsaw?

RE: How to Scrap the Mk4 Shell?? - Toms306 - 02-11-2012

I don't have any dangerous tools though lol!

And where the hell did you get 120 for a shell? Unless it was made of copper or something. lol

RE: How to Scrap the Mk4 Shell?? - cwspellowe - 02-11-2012

I gave up bothering getting money for the gti shell, just phoned some pikeys and they came and cut it up and removed it for me. Took them about 20 mins, cut into three bits, threw it on the back of the trailer and away.

Make sure they're environmentally registered though, cars have to be depolluted properly if scrapped. Make sure they take their bit of the V5C too as the DVLA has to be informed.

RE: How to Scrap the Mk4 Shell?? - Jonny81191 - 02-11-2012

well it did have a block in it.

RE: How to Scrap the Mk4 Shell?? - Danny2009 - 02-11-2012

It's a well known fact us northerners don't like parting with anything but I see it as I've made my money out of the car I'd sooner let someone take it than f*ck about myself for the sake of £50

RE: How to Scrap the Mk4 Shell?? - Toms306 - 03-11-2012

This is proper weight saving, none of that carbon fibre or perspex shite... Tongue

Still not sure what to do with it, had as many people tell me its not worth cutting up as those that say it is!! Confused Might see how cheap an angle grinder I can find, will always come in handy with a 306 anyway. Tongue

Oh and on another note...dont buy tools from the 99p shop! Sad

I was about to comment on "buy cheap, buy twice" especially with tools, but it seems you've already discovered this, but clearly not learnt your lesson!!

RE: How to Scrap the Mk4 Shell?? - Toms306 - 03-11-2012

Tbh I thought 'what can go wrong' with a pair of side cutters........didn't realise they were made of the same stuff as Peugeots.... lol

I more meant 'how cheap a midrage angle grinder' would be.....wasnt gonna go looking in poundland for one lol. Not everything thats good value breaks, my cheap Clarke impact wrench has taken some serious abuse and still works well! Smile
