I'd hope there was heat there, that's how the brakes work ninja

I understand that much.

brakes convert the kenetic energy of the cars movement, via friction, into heat

Re: 302mm vs GTi6 brakes - Rippthrough - 08-01-2012

Sparks are just hot iron particles from the pad/disc surface, they don't really show how much heat is in the disc, just that the disc is fairly soft or the pad fairly hard.

Mr. Ripp. I still await your informative + rambling reply to my epic pm on '6 oc Tongue

Re: 302mm vs GTi6 brakes - Toms306 - 08-01-2012

Not sure why this is even a topic.......with 302s you cant have cyclones!! :o So clealy the '6 set up is best. Wink

I got fade now and then in the 1.4 (266s) but maybe that was moreto do with the drums? Also got it once bad in the 1.8 (266s and rear discs) after having to slow for a speed camera, then sped up and got round a corner and had to emergency stop from 70mph........almost shat myself! Don't remeber getting it any more in the 1.8 though, so I'd imagine the '6 set up would be be fine for most driving except unusaul circumstances (like the one above).

Re: 302mm vs GTi6 brakes - Atterz - 08-01-2012

Ahh yess, exceptional circumstances like speeding?

Atterz Wrote:Ahh yess, exceptional circumstances like speeding?

Yeah I'm sure you never speed, plus I was young and stupid and only just got 115bhpz lol. Also, having to STOP from 70mph isn't exactly an everyday thing....especially just after slowing from 'another' high speed.

It was that rambling it's wandered off out of my mind entirely.

Re: 302mm vs GTi6 brakes - Atterz - 08-01-2012

I dont speed, that would be naughty.

I am running black diamond disks and Mintex 1155's on a 6 setup that's been completely rebuilt, any one that knows me knows how I drive and they are awsome

Re: 302mm vs GTi6 brakes - Flynn - 22-01-2012

Should have gone for Mintex discs to get the maximum out of that setup mate as they are matched friction technology.

Re: 302mm vs GTi6 brakes - Mattcheese31 - 22-01-2012

Brakes?? . . . . . . . . . .what are Brak . . . .ahhhhh, that's what that pedal in the middle is for then is it? . . Big Grin

on a related note i run 283's and i don't have a clue what pads or discs but they stop well enough . .Wink

Re: 302mm vs GTi6 brakes - Ben Jay - 22-01-2012

so the 302s are from a 307? what model is it and also how hard is it to fit to a 6?

Re: 302mm vs GTi6 brakes - padge - 22-01-2012

there off the 2.2 16v hdi

Re: 302mm vs GTi6 brakes - Connor - 22-01-2012

2.2? That wasn't in the 307, its only 2.0 and they were on the 307xsi's both perv and derv

Re: 302mm vs GTi6 brakes - Ben Jay - 23-01-2012

ah ok so just get a new set from ECP? also what do you have to do to fit them and modifications to any thing and does it matter if abs or no abs?

Re: 302mm vs GTi6 brakes - Niall - 23-01-2012

All 307s are abs mate so don't worry about that.
Iirc they fit straight on once you find the right discs but I'm sure someone will confirm this!

Re: 302mm vs GTi6 brakes - Ben Jay - 23-01-2012

just read what i wrote wasnt clear

my 306 has no abs and the 307 has abs so will they work or is there another way around it?

Re: 302mm vs GTi6 brakes - Ed Doe - 23-01-2012

^^ thought you meant that; you dont need to worry iirc; you just dont need to plug the sensors in (as there isn't anywhere to plug em in!!)

Re: 302mm vs GTi6 brakes - Ben Jay - 23-01-2012

Well in that case

Re: 302mm vs GTi6 brakes - Jonny81191 - 08-02-2012

Right! I've now decided on GTi6 283mm brakes.

So I'll ask another question

Which pad/disk combo is best?

302mm vs GTi6 brakes - Jonny b - 08-02-2012

Iam using black diamond disks and mintex 1155's they take an age to warm up but are f*cking awesome, tad expensive but I like stopping ha ha

Re: 302mm vs GTi6 brakes - Atterz - 08-02-2012

For road use? Mintex M1144 and Brembo OE discs.

Re: 302mm vs GTi6 brakes - Dum-Dum - 08-02-2012

Mintes OEM pads and discs (or if youve got money then everyone says 1144s)

Re: 302mm vs GTi6 brakes - jammapic - 08-02-2012

Don't bother with OEM. Cooked a set on track in a few laps, the 1144's have been bulletproof!
