Drivers side rear panel - Nadine - 23-10-2012

Does anyone know if these just bolt off and on? Found someone in Kent that is breaking a black 6. So I'm thinking it might be easier to just replace the panel. Need the front bumper too

RE: Drivers side rear panel - Matt - 23-10-2012

As in the rear quarter? They don't bolt atall. Sure an angle grinder and welder would do the job though Smile

RE: Drivers side rear panel - Nadine - 23-10-2012

Cool Smile don't know if just getting the rust patch fixed and sprayed would be cheaper and less hassle

RE: Drivers side rear panel - Matt - 23-10-2012

Definatley less hassle.

Grind/sand the rust back. Rust treat it, red oxide primer, normal primer paint and laqcuer. Job jobed

RE: Drivers side rear panel - Nadine - 23-10-2012

I'll give it a bash and if I wreck it then no big deal, it's a project Smile thanks for the help Matt

RE: Drivers side rear panel - Matt - 23-10-2012

No worries. If you need a hand then most members on here are pretty clued up on spraying and rust treatment Smile

Oh and feel free to rep me Wink

RE: Drivers side rear panel - Nadine - 23-10-2012

Hmmm wonder if anyone lives near me would wanna help.....

RE: Drivers side rear panel - samass - 23-10-2012

yep, what matt said. and black *should* be easy enough to match and blend in Smile

RE: Drivers side rear panel - Oil-burner - 23-10-2012

Where abouts on the rear panel is the damage?

Pics if possible

RE: Drivers side rear panel - Matt - 23-10-2012

Looks to be near the wheel, judging by the welcome thread.

I'd lend a hand but I'd roller it
/selftroll

Yeah it's where Matt said

I've done my surface rust on my escort before and that was soo easy, so I'm hoping the pug will be the same. The rust goes further up, than the pic shows, as the paint has bubbled so would need to peel that away

RE: Drivers side rear panel - Niall - 23-10-2012

That looks a bit more than surface rust to me. Might be a case of cutting it out and welding a patch in. Before you go that drastic though, sand it right back and see if there is enough clean metal there. If so, just treat it, tidy it up and paint.

RE: Drivers side rear panel - Matt - 23-10-2012

Think Nialls right. Just cut and weld. On second inspection it does look pretty deep

You big gay rep whore you!

It's hard to tell from the pic how bad that is, so if you could get some better ones that would help. But as said, depends how bad it is. As if it's gone far enough the only way would be to cut it out, as it'll just spread.

If it can be salvaged then just take your time with the preparation, as the finish is all about the prep. Should be able to plend it in, just don't paint to a mask line, leave a gap so it can be feathered in. Then once the paint is hard enough you can get cutting compound and preferably a mop on it.

RE: Drivers side rear panel - Nadine - 23-10-2012

Know in my luck it will need to be cut out Sad

I'll google on how to blend paint in etc and give it a go. Projects are all about trial and error Smile

Oh and I may have a gti rear bench for you, although I am a tad far away. Want know until I pick car up Friday x

RE: Drivers side rear panel - Matt - 23-10-2012

I am definatley a rep whore haha

RE: Drivers side rear panel - Nadine - 23-10-2012

RE: Drivers side rear panel - Curt - 23-10-2012

Noooo, don't rep him!! He doesn't need any more

RE: Drivers side rear panel - JackLewis_Dturbo - 23-10-2012

i doubt that has gone through tbh, it would be alot more flaky than that... just attack it and youll soon find out! Smile

RE: Drivers side rear panel - Nadine - 23-10-2012

Too late curt I already did. Just away to see if anyone has a black bumper with the round fog lights

Drivers side rear panel - ash240970 - 23-10-2012

I went to see a guy about getting some paint done on my car and that's black yo - paint code P0XY so out came the paint suppliers catalogue and turns out there's 3 shade variants of P0XY so just be careful when you get it painted.

RE: Drivers side rear panel - lolsteve - 23-10-2012

just get a magic marker and colour it in, jobs a good'un

RE: Drivers side rear panel - Curt - 23-10-2012

There's 3 different types but that's why there's different codes - POXY, BEXY and P3XY I believe

RE: Drivers side rear panel - Nadine - 23-10-2012

I'll check the paint code before I start anything. Might just do all the hard work then get a body shop to paint it

We looked at P3XY in the catalogue as well but that only denotes the number of layers of base coat applied at the factory. Couldn't remember the third one when we looked.
