Rugby League - THE_Liam - 06-10-2012 Right, not sure how this'll go down because this place is mostly southerners but 4way mentioned he's a Wigan fan so I thought I'd see what's what with it being Grand Final Saturday ![]() Any RL fans besides me and Phil then? Anyone watching or going to the final today? I'm off to the pub for 11am for a few pints and then on the coach to Old Trafford at 1pm, Leeds v Warrington kicks off at 6pm, and I'll be hoping Leeds can win their 5th Super League in 6 years. Been a fan since I was a young kid but they were crap back then, I followed them through the shit times but I've been rewarded for it over the past 8 years, 5x league champions, 3x world club champions ![]() RE: Rugby League - David - 06-10-2012 Hey! I'm a southerners and I play and watch rugby league!!!! Rugby League - THE_Liam - 06-10-2012 Rrrrrrrrhhhhhhhiiiiiiinnnnnnooooooosssssss!!!!!! F*ck you Warrington!!!!!!!! 26-18 ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Rugby League - THE_Liam - 27-05-2013 Dave! RE: Rugby League - Dave26 - 27-05-2013 Good man! I'll start with a couple of things that are pissing me off! The standard of refereeing, we've seen video refs getting decisions wrong after viewing multiple replays. What can be done about this and the general inconsistency of the refs? Time and time again games are being ruined by different interpretations of what has become a complicated and controversial book of rules! Also the magic weekend. We can't fill a football stadium for a whole round of games, does that show the sport in a positive light? We've a league system, how is it fair that you play everyone home and away but then have another round of fixtures, surely that makes the league system that determines places in the playoffs flawed? And the playoffs? Don't get me started... Are there any other RL fans on here? Or is it just me and the Yaaaarkshire lad? Rugby League - THE_Liam - 27-05-2013 Well, for the standard of refereeing, look at Gansons howler in the Hull derby, the try scorer was 2 metres offside when the ball was kicked and he still gave it! Refs seem to have a problem spotting who was offside at the play the ball, and therefore have no idea if an offside player makes a tackle. As for magic weekend, I love it, don't get me wrong it's a great day of sitting in the sun boozing while watching multiple games, but my main problem with it is I'm not right happy about having to play you lot 3 times, and I reckon you'd rather not play us 3 times either... RE: Rugby League - Dave26 - 27-05-2013 (27-05-2013, 06:41 PM)THE_Liam Wrote: Well, for the standard of refereeing, look at Gansons howler in the Hull derby, the try scorer was 2 metres offside when the ball was kicked and he still gave it! You're right, and previously we played saints every year whilst Wire played Salford... I think it was a good idea that really hasn't worked. The idea was to spread the game, hence Scotland and Wales, but now it's in Manchester? It would make more sense to do it for the cup quarter finals or semis, or even playoffs somehow. You can't have a league system then mess about with that league system unless its fair for every team, and it's just not. Warrington had a much easier game than us and Leeds. This Saints team is the worst I have seen, with inexperienced youngsters being hyped up beyond belief and experienced players who are just not doing the job. Regarding the refs, I just can't think of a reason why Ganson saw fit to give that try. It was as clear as day, blatantly offside. It's just embarrassing and left everyone scratching their head. This Leeds team is an enigma, they can seemingly play poorly for large portions of a season and yet come the end you can bet they will have a major trophy sat in the cabinet. One of the best teams I've seen play, you don't win this number of leagues in a sort time by being a good team, you do it by being a great team. But I do feel Sir Kev is starting to wane and wonder who can step in? Rugby League - THE_Liam - 27-05-2013 The problem with our team in some ways is that we have a fair few players who are getting on in years, we have 7 in our starting lineup who are over 30 or turning 30, so we are I feel struggling to play every game at 100% intensity, that showed against Saints when we tired and let them walk back into it in the second half. However, that didn't happen against you lot, we were pounding the hell out of you all the way through the second half and never looked dead on our feet. The thing is, is that that team is very close, all mates, and when it's backs against the wall, the table doesn't look good and every other coach and every pundit is saying we're finished and the glory days are over, they do it for each other and the fans. People always ask why Leeds fans are so obsessive and passionate, and that's why. The majority of that squad, Sinfield, McGuire, Bailey, Burrow, Jones-Buchanan, Jones-Bishop, Hall, Ablett, Clarkson, Sutcliffe, Ward, Watkins all came through the academy, and with the exception of Sinny (Oldham) and Burrow (Featherstone) they're all Leeds boys, every Leeds fan knows a player, or knows someone who does, I played for Jamie Jones-Buchanans old club (Stanningley) and he used to come and help out coaching us, and Ryan Hall once put 4 tries past me in a game against his club (Oulton Raiders). They're our boys, and that's what's so special. I grew up watching Leeds lose everything to Wigan and Saints, so this run of success is doubly sweet for me. As for Sinny, go ahead, write him off, we love it when people do. He sometimes looks bad when short balls go begging or kicks bounce in touch with no-one to take them, but Sinny doesn't kick to players, he kicks to gaps, it's down to the players to get there, and that's his way, and it works. Sinny is a genius, easily the best stand off in super league history, Long, Farrell, Paul, Harris, Briers, no one comes close, he's like the reincarnation of Holmesy, he's the best leader around, the hardest working, most professional and dependable, the strongest kicker and the greatest passer in super league. He's slow, and not very skilful, but that's McGuires job. I tell you now, if you're an an England fan, get behind him. If anyone can bring us the World Cup, it's Sir Kev ![]() RE: Rugby League - Dave26 - 27-05-2013 (27-05-2013, 07:18 PM)THE_Liam Wrote: The problem with our team in some ways is that we have a fair few players who are getting on in years, we have 7 in our starting lineup who are over 30 or turning 30, so we are I feel struggling to play every game at 100% intensity, that showed against Saints when we tired and let them walk back into it in the second half. Oh believe me I'm not writing him off, I've seen him lift too many trophies to do that! But I do feel that he is past his best, and I don't know if you have the cover within your squad to make up for that, not unlike when Farrell came to the end of his career at Wigan. The team spirit in the Leeds team is clear to see, you won't catch me arguing with that! He and they will go round again a few more times and will win more trophies. For me Kylie Leuleai typifies the attitude, he never stops and doesn't want to, signing a new pay as you play deal shows that! As for England, Sinfield has been around for long enough at that level and not done too much for me, not that many have! I he plays I don't think the Aussies will be worried! Rugby League - THE_Liam - 27-05-2013 Sinfield has been the best man for that job for years, and with all due respect to Peacock, Farrell, Schofield and all the other great captains GB/England have had, he's the man to do it. This is our best chance since '72 ![]() I have a good feeling about Sutcliffe. Personally, I think Sinfield will have 2 more seasons, and then McGuire will go to stand off, and Sutcliffe will learn his trade at half back as a scrum half ready to replace McGuire. There's Wardy as well, but I see his future at loose forward. We have another great crop of young players ready to come through, it's all down to how we make the transition really. RE: Rugby League - Niall - 27-05-2013 Now i know you are dedicated league fans but me and Ed were talking the other day about seeing who wanted to go to twickenham in December for the varsity match? I know its Union but im sure you can still appreciate and enjoy a good game! I don't mind playing union for a change now and again, but I don't enjoy watching it, I just find it a bit slow. I'll watch England in the big tournaments but that's about it for me. You and Ed are welcome to come up for the Grand Final if you fancy it, it's pretty likely to be mine and Daves teams playing and it's a great occasion in front of 80 thousand at Old Trafford. I'll make you honorary Loiners! /inb4daveandwigan RE: Rugby League - Niall - 27-05-2013 (27-05-2013, 09:06 PM)THE_Liam Wrote:(27-05-2013, 08:40 PM)Niall Wrote: Now i know you are dedicated league fans but me and Ed were talking the other day about seeing who wanted to go to twickenham in December for the varsity match? Yeah there's nothing like going to the game to see it first hand, and the grand final is amazing. 80,000 people in Old Trafford makes a hell of a noise, and it's great to walk around the pubs before the match and have a bit of banter with the other fans. The funny thing is all the fans turn up for it, not just the teams playing. When we beat Warrington last year I was sat behind a group of Castleford fans, who were all supporting Leeds because they were a Yorkshire team, it's a really friendly atmosphere. Except for with the Hull FC fans, who I'm sure Dave will agree, are all c*nts. Be great to have you dude, I'll probably be staying over in Manchester with a few mates, although dancing up and down the aisle of the coach spraying beer around on the way back to Leeds is great fun ![]() Who's your team in union by the way? With my season ticket I get a few free Leeds Carnegie tickets because there owned by the same firm, might be a laugh if your lads play Leeds. I just cant stand all the politics of it and the fact that a lot of supporters are complete wankers when it comes to it. Its just comical when you see things on tv where the police have to separate the fans leaving the stadium so they dont kick off. Thats just sad in my opinion. At a rugby match you never get any of that, its all just friendly banter. Think the only time ive seen the police turn up to a rugby match was at the army v navy when a streaker (pissed army guy) spent about 15 minutes on the pitch wearing nothing but his boots lol. Im a big England fan but also wasps. Unfortunately never seen either other than on tv ![]() Rugby League - THE_Liam - 27-05-2013 I've watched Wasps a couple of times actually, a few years ago you signed a guy from us called Lee Smith, he only played 5 games and then we did a deal to bring him back, but I watched Wasps to see how he did. RE: Rugby League - Dave26 - 27-05-2013 The same as Liam, if it was nearer I'd be up for that! If I does end up being a Leeds Wigan final we'll have to meet up. Although I'll warn you that Liam won't be used to seeing his team lose in Grand Finals, so he may be rather upset... Oh and to Hull fans I raise you Warrington. Not all of course, but some are horrible. Rugby League - THE_Liam - 27-05-2013 (27-05-2013, 10:19 PM)Dave26 Wrote: The same as Liam, if it was nearer I'd be up for that! Big talk Dave, big talk. After the last few years I don't know how anyone can be confident against us at Old Trafford, I honestly believe that if we can get there again, well do it again, and were playing better so far this season than in '11 and '12... I'll admit the great team is getting old, but there's a few trophies in this team yet ![]() As for Warrington, we had a great laugh with them last year, despite us almost continually chanting "oh wanky wanky, wanky wanky wanky wanky Warrington!" I tell you now, I'd rather play you men than Warrington. They seem to have some sort of hold over us in the last few years! Don't get me wrong I'm not confident of us winning it, but we've as good a chance as anyone else. Need to get there first, we know what happened last year, I saw that coming a mile off! Rugby League - THE_Liam - 28-05-2013 Might be your bogey team, like Huddersfield with us. Wigan are clearly a better team, yet we've beat you and then lost narrowly to you, Huddersfield are nowhere near the quality of Wigan or Warrington, we've played them twice and got battered both times, can't understand it... Yeah we knocked you out in both semis last year, the cup semi is one of the best single performances I've seen by Leeds, we were unstoppable that day. You've as good a chance as anybody, but the fact is that's our speciality ![]() Rugby League - THE_Liam - 28-05-2013 Right, another subject, what's happening with the next licenses? I'm saying Cas down and Halifax up. RE: Rugby League - Dave26 - 29-05-2013 (28-05-2013, 10:43 AM)THE_Liam Wrote: Right, another subject, what's happening with the next licenses? Need to start being ruthless or without relegation clubs have no incentive to change. Rugby League - THE_Liam - 29-05-2013 A lot reckon Wakey will go but they've a bigger fan base than Cas, some really decent players and they play good rugby, plus they have planning and funds for a new stadium. It'd make sense for Cas, Wakey and Fev to merge but it'll never happen.... Hull KR are another possibility I reckon, what with 2 clubs in Hull... On that note, how I miss proper rugby league grounds and atmospheres, sitting in an empty football stadium just isn't the same. Rugby League - THE_Liam - 29-05-2013 Yeah true, nothing beats 20k at Headingley! There is nowhere like the south stand ![]() Rugby League - THE_Liam - 30-05-2013 Having said that about football stadiums, we filled Elland road for the 2012 world club challenge, 40 thousand Rhinos fans, that was some atmosphere! Don't get me wrong, when filled a football stadium can be great. But how often does that happen? Can't beat standing, packed in under a low roof. Away days at Knowsley road, that's the stuff dreams are made of. The history of the place is nice, not just Leeds but all the challenge cup finals, county cups, premiership finals and internationals that have been played there ![]() RE: Rugby League - Dave26 - 31-05-2013 Anyone with a bit of spare time whack sky sports 1 on for the second half of Hull FC vs Leeds. Hull are winning 18-0 at half time and have played some fantastic rugby. Leeds will come back second half and it should make for a great 40 minutes of rugby. Rugby League - THE_Liam - 31-05-2013 I couldn't give less of a shit about that result, it's Watkins and McGuire I'm worried about. Don't know what was wrong with us tonight. We just look knackered. Just hoping McDermott can rouse them for the next game. Well get back on form, probably just in time for the playoffs ![]() |
