Too high milage for a remap? - Leedunn86 - 05-10-2012 My car has done 150,000 in standard form, i would like to do a stage one remap but is it too high mileage to take the remap? What sort of mileage are ppl running remaps at ? RE: Too high milage for a remap? - cully - 05-10-2012 give the car a service with some good quality oil and map away ![]() RE: Too high milage for a remap? - Leedunn86 - 05-10-2012 Just had a full service new oil filters aux belt and cam belt the clutch is pretty new. Will the extra 20bhp damage anything ? RE: Too high milage for a remap? - Chris_90 - 05-10-2012 Im on 160k and just about to do stage 2 looking at 50-60bhp more than standard im not worried lol should easyly take a stage one if its in good health, is clutch ok? RE: Too high milage for a remap? - C2K - 05-10-2012 I put stage 1 on mine at 180k. 55k later she's still motoring. RE: Too high milage for a remap? - silverzx - 05-10-2012 As already said as long as its been looked after and not neglected on servicing then it should be able to cope reliably. Too high milage for a remap? - kentiiboii - 05-10-2012 Go for it. Never a problem with mine Oh wait ![]() RE: Too high milage for a remap? - wonkey18 - 16-10-2012 154000 miles stage 1 but its about 135bhp and flys! no problems what so ever RE: Too high milage for a remap? - 4WayDiablo - 16-10-2012 mates is on 161600 miles with a remap and is going fine Too high milage for a remap? - kentiiboii - 16-10-2012 (16-10-2012, 10:28 PM)wonkey18 Wrote: 154000 miles stage 1 but its about 135bhp and flys! no problems what so ever That's just because you have the colour of the gods! What mods do you have alongside the remap? Do you have an at wheels dyno plot at all? Cheers Dave RE: Too high milage for a remap? - scfc_151 - 11-11-2012 My 306 hdi is on 210,000 Id love to remap it for more power/economy but im completely green to this. Could someone give me some pointers and idea of cost? cheers RE: Too high milage for a remap? - Toms306 - 11-11-2012 210k? Now that probably is a little too high for a remap..... RE: Too high milage for a remap? - Chris_90 - 11-11-2012 As what tom said think 210 is a little high, I just done mine at 160k and just been one problem after another if I could turn back time I wouldnt have bothered RE: Too high milage for a remap? - Oil-burner - 11-11-2012 Give over! As long as its healthy it'll be fine! You'll find some cars at 200k in better health than ones with 100k sometimes, depends what kind of life it's had at the end of the day! I say give it a good service, and map away! RE: Too high milage for a remap? - scfc_151 - 11-11-2012 (11-11-2012, 07:19 PM)Oil-burner Wrote: Give over! As long as its healthy it'll be fine! Its in mint condition ive posted one or two niggly problems but it runs really well So where would i start with a remap and what sort of cost? RE: Too high milage for a remap? - Chris_90 - 11-11-2012 If u get ur own cable and map it ur self, Stage 1 is around £75, stage 2 £100 (u will need an.intercooler for that one) drop mr wippy a pm he posted a few post up on here, great guy hes done all my mapping, RE: Too high milage for a remap? - Oil-burner - 11-11-2012 I'd first service it with decent oil and filters (total quartz 9000 5w-40) is what I use. Get and fault codes read and resolved! Then remap it with either Pro_steve (£75) Mr whippy price unknown Tb206gti Price unknown Then have fun! RE: Too high milage for a remap? - scfc_151 - 11-11-2012 Thanks guys I service it myself religiously with fully synthetic quality oil I also bought a obd2 scan tool so Ive cleared all codes It sounds reasonable for a stage 1, what extra power/mpg would that get? Cheers RE: Too high milage for a remap? - Oil-burner - 11-11-2012 So you've cleared them, then run it and checked again? Your looking around 125bhp ish depending on the condition of injectors etc. Mpg depends entirely on your driving style tbh! RE: Too high milage for a remap? - Niall - 11-11-2012 providing the engine has been properly cared for and maintained, dont let mileage bother you. Its not a problem for modern engines and these engines are pretty strong! RE: Too high milage for a remap? - Toms306 - 11-11-2012 Servicing is of course good......but at 200k other things will be wearing...lift pump, crank pulley, injectors, and unless you've had one, the clutch probably won't take it tbh. And you all saw what happened to my golf at just 130k, metal can wear pretty quick! ![]() I personally wouldn't remap a 200k car, whatever it was, bit that's not to say you shouldn't. Just that you should be aware things may not take the map well. RE: Too high milage for a remap? - Niall - 11-11-2012 clutch is a consumable item tom and thats why they generally arnt covered under warranties. things will wear but it can be slowed right down by proper maintenance and mechanical sympathy. providing i was happy the engine was well looked after, i wouldnt think twice about mapping this car! RE: Too high milage for a remap? - Oil-burner - 11-11-2012 ^^ exactly! Must just be vags Tom! :p RE: Too high milage for a remap? - Toms306 - 11-11-2012 Not all vags just mk4s..... ![]() And yeah a clutch is consumable but its not cheap/easy to replace. Clutch is the main reason I'm not going stage 2 tbh, but im a bit worried about the clutch on the china taking a stage 1 ok, it has done 120k! RE: Too high milage for a remap? - Oil-burner - 11-11-2012 120k is nothing Tom, look at the mileage some of the xud boys have on them and most of them are running more than 125bhp! If the clutch goes replace it and then stage 2! RE: Too high milage for a remap? - Niall - 11-11-2012 (11-11-2012, 08:52 PM)Toms306 Wrote: Not all vags just mk4s..... come on tom youve already replaced a clutch. Man up and replace it if it doesnt like the new power! RE: Too high milage for a remap? - Toms306 - 11-11-2012 Replacing a clutch on a car that was worth scrap value and not being driven daily isn't difficult. Trying to do it on a car I need everyday would be! Plus the clutch is horrible lol, I thought the new one on the HDi wasn't particularly nice.... until I got this one haha.....hydro clutch retrofit anyone? ![]() RE: Too high milage for a remap? - C2K - 12-11-2012 (11-11-2012, 07:19 PM)Oil-burner Wrote: Give over! As long as its healthy it'll be fine! I guarantee mine is in mechanically better shape than 99% of this forum at 239000, i'm quite meticulous with maintenance. |
