Torsion bar too soft - Slam Wagon - 18-09-2012

Ok so ive lowered my hdi estate some time ago and its always been really soft, i did it the pikey way as the bars were not moving if i tried it properly. After fitting my new wheels i need to firm up the back end, ive already fitted stiffer shocks and although theyve helped its not enough. If i undo what ive done to the torsion bars and do it properly will it stiffen the suspension? Or is there a way to stiffen it without undoing it all and then doing it properly? I want to keep the ride height i have and just firm it up.

Thanks

Ian

Thicker tbs is your only option really mate

RE: Torsion bar too soft - Slam Wagon - 18-09-2012

Hdi estate has the gti 6 beams doesnt it so are there thicker available?

RE: Torsion bar too soft - Scott - 18-09-2012

The HDi should have 20mm torsion bars, so you could get some 21mm torsion bars from a Citroen Xsara VTS. Should set you back about £80. Other than that you could look into hybrid anti-roll bars but that'll cost you over £300 if I remember correctly.

It'll have 21mm bars in it currently.
You'll need bigger ones but the pricey. I paid 250 for the 23.5 peugeot sport ones I hvae and that was a bargin.

So its not the way its lowered? I did my old dturbo hatch the same way and that didnt seem anywhere near as soft, is it just the extra weight?

Doing it the pikey way won't affect how soft it is no, it just speeds up wear on the bearings generally. Only option is thinker TB's as said

Correct me if im wrong but 21mm only came on the xsara vts?

20mm on the gti and some later higher spec 306?

I had a beam out of a x reg hdi estate and that was 20mm.

RE: Torsion bar too soft - Chris - 18-09-2012

Na the late plate hdi estates have 21mm bars for sure.

RE: Torsion bar too soft - spike2002 - 18-09-2012

How late a plate mate? the beam from the x reg hdi estate was 20mm
