Well,
Most of you know I went to buy this vectra earlier -

Anyway, damn good spec and actually drove well too, first auto I've driven...so for £400 I had it.
Drove 15miles to Sainsburys.....came out of sainsburys to find a puddle of coolant and a lot of hissing and fizzing!
Filled it up, drove home, had lost most of its coolant again!
Phoned up the guy and, respect to him, he did say how sorry he was about it, he genuinely didn't know, and I could bring the car back and get my money back.
So thats what I've just done.
2hours of car ownership, gotta be a record hasn't it? Must've even beaten Jordan at that lol.
So yeah NEED a car over the weekend, if anyone knows of a decent one either locally or will be happy to drive it over here for me then I'll more than likely take you up on the offer (price dependant)!

I never said i'd take anything, maybe I wasn't clear in the previous post, but what I meant is I need a FULLY WORKING car, 306 preferably, before Sunday ideally, but if not sunday will have to do....

At least the seller was a sound chap about it, Though TBH you'd already commited a fail by getting a spazzo'd VectraB as a temp car. Just get a K11 Micra or something. Reliable as sin, and cheap to buy/run.

yeah i agree, you got to triple check everything, or even get your step dad/dad or a mate to help you out when view cars,
my dads been there with me with my cars, he test drove my HDi to see what he thought about it. just to give me some back up.
at least the fella gave you your cash back like as some would have said your problem now son,
a little research goes along way tom too,
my mate bought a vectra on a 55 plate and hes getting shot now, he read a review on them after he bought it, and f*ck me he got a shock with the amount of faults this version of vectra has!
he did research his old ford focus before he bought that and it was a cracking car!
he regretts putting it in for the vectra! he even looked at the 306 before that too but couldnt get his hands on a good one.

It didn't leak on the test drive. There's only so much you can look at. I gave it a damn hard 8 mile test drive As well. Not sure what more I could've done.

No, my step dad knows bugger all about cars, but he's always at work anyway. My Rad knows even less, assuming he's still alive.....not heard from him in a month or so....
My mum will take me to view a local car (shes not driving far as she's waiting for a hospital op) but she doesn't know anything at all about cars except the colour lol.
So who else do you suggest I take?

This is what you get with cheapo temporary cars. 2 days after buying my £250 DT the rad blew, I just ordered a new rad and got on with it, just done a 1000 mile round trip to Cornwall in it last week...
If you buy a car for £10000, expect it to be perfect. If you buy a car for £2000, expect minor faults like dodgy electric windows, gauges or maybe a knocking bush. £250? Expect to have to fix it

If you don't have anyone that knows about cars to go with you, why not do what the rest of the population does and get the RAC or similar to check it first? Hell, if you're gonna keep buying sheds a compression tester and a coolant sniffer will only cost you about £20 and at least stop you buying completely f*cked cars.
You're lucky the buyer was so good about it, he could have just told you to piss off.

I'm pretty sure mechanics aren't gonna take time out of thier day to view a car with someone....especially when its an hour round trip to town, plus 15-30mins looking over a car....can't see them doing that tbh.

He could've done...but I'm sure he wants to keep his 100% ebay feedback.
Plus what would a compression tester or sniff tester have done? I reckon it was the waterpump leaking, niether of the above would have been any use anyway.And do you know how much it costs for anRAC check!?
