Shortest Car Ownership EVER!! - Toms306 - 07-09-2012 Well, Most of you know I went to buy this vectra earlier - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1999-VAUXHALL-VECTRA-CDX-AUTO-SILVER-/120972318260?_trksid=p5197.m1992&_trkparms=aid%3D111000%26algo%3DREC.CURRENT%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D14%26meid%3D1881811113903294645%26pid%3D100015%26prg%3D1006%26rk%3D1%26 Anyway, damn good spec and actually drove well too, first auto I've driven...so for £400 I had it. Drove 15miles to Sainsburys.....came out of sainsburys to find a puddle of coolant and a lot of hissing and fizzing! ![]() Filled it up, drove home, had lost most of its coolant again! ![]() Phoned up the guy and, respect to him, he did say how sorry he was about it, he genuinely didn't know, and I could bring the car back and get my money back. So thats what I've just done. 2hours of car ownership, gotta be a record hasn't it? Must've even beaten Jordan at that lol. ![]() So yeah NEED a car over the weekend, if anyone knows of a decent one either locally or will be happy to drive it over here for me then I'll more than likely take you up on the offer (price dependant)! Cheers Tom RE: Shortest Car Ownership EVER!! - puglove - 07-09-2012 Just your luck tomo. Atleast the guy was cool about. Fair play to him RE: Shortest Car Ownership EVER!! - C.A.R. - 07-09-2012 I'm trying to think of a scenario where you would NEED a car at such short notice you'll take anything...enlighten me? I never said i'd take anything, maybe I wasn't clear in the previous post, but what I meant is I need a FULLY WORKING car, 306 preferably, before Sunday ideally, but if not sunday will have to do.... RE: Shortest Car Ownership EVER!! - 1616six - 07-09-2012 Or if you're not fussed what you have, this? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2001-51-FORD-MONDEO-LX-GREEN-/330790161824?pt=Automobiles_UK&hash=item4d04a14da0&_uhb=1#ht_500wt_949 I'd drive that tbh RE: Shortest Car Ownership EVER!! - procta - 07-09-2012 have i missed something tom? what happend to the golf? He was in the middle of listing all the reasons his Golf is better than a 306 when ungodly amounts of karma struck and the Golf broke. RE: Shortest Car Ownership EVER!! - Pete - 07-09-2012 At least the seller was a sound chap about it, Though TBH you'd already commited a fail by getting a spazzo'd VectraB as a temp car. Just get a K11 Micra or something. Reliable as sin, and cheap to buy/run. EDIT; 306 Posts ![]() RE: Shortest Car Ownership EVER!! - Rippthrough - 07-09-2012 Tom, how about instead of rushing to buy something every time, you actually f*cking LOOK at what your buying? Harsh, I know, but wakey wakey ffs! RE: Shortest Car Ownership EVER!! - procta - 07-09-2012 (07-09-2012, 07:19 PM)c.a.r. It didn't leak on the test drive. There's only so much you can look at. I gave it a damn hard 8 mile test drive As well. Not sure what more I could've done. Procta, I'm glad you have people you can take to view cars, I don't. I have to make do with my own knowledge, or lack of. RE: Shortest Car Ownership EVER!! - Jonny81191 - 07-09-2012 tom, go buy that sigma DT. RE: Shortest Car Ownership EVER!! - stevieg - 07-09-2012 i done about 30 mins if that with the hyosung i went to Northampton to pick up RE: Shortest Car Ownership EVER!! - Andy - 07-09-2012 Buy a Hummer. It may give you a confidence boost. RE: Shortest Car Ownership EVER!! - Birk - 07-09-2012 I bought a dturbo about 6mobths ago, turbo oil seal went on it before I'd even got to the motorway, less than 3mile, so I carried on driving to the next service station, rang a local scrap guy and made £50 lol RE: Shortest Car Ownership EVER!! - procta - 08-09-2012 tom you mean to tell me that a parent or a step parent wont help you out when looking at a car? No, my step dad knows bugger all about cars, but he's always at work anyway. My Rad knows even less, assuming he's still alive.....not heard from him in a month or so.... My mum will take me to view a local car (shes not driving far as she's waiting for a hospital op) but she doesn't know anything at all about cars except the colour lol. So who else do you suggest I take? And lol stevieg and birk, clearly mine wasn't the shortest ownership then lol. RE: Shortest Car Ownership EVER!! - HDIkyle - 08-09-2012 My Boss at work bought a Hyundi Coupe brand spanking new, drove over the road to the petrol station and before he even got out of the car a womans foot "slipped" and smashed it into the pumps. He walked over to the dealership and said "you know that car I just bought, ye, well look over there....." RE: Shortest Car Ownership EVER!! - Toms306 - 08-09-2012 Serves him right for buying a hyundai coupe haha! RE: Shortest Car Ownership EVER!! - THE_Liam - 08-09-2012 This is what you get with cheapo temporary cars. 2 days after buying my £250 DT the rad blew, I just ordered a new rad and got on with it, just done a 1000 mile round trip to Cornwall in it last week... If you buy a car for £10000, expect it to be perfect. If you buy a car for £2000, expect minor faults like dodgy electric windows, gauges or maybe a knocking bush. £250? Expect to have to fix it ![]() RE: Shortest Car Ownership EVER!! - Toms306 - 08-09-2012 I understand that Liam........but for £2k Id want something fully working for atleast a month (like the golf... ![]() ![]() RE: Shortest Car Ownership EVER!! - Rippthrough - 08-09-2012 If you don't have anyone that knows about cars to go with you, why not do what the rest of the population does and get the RAC or similar to check it first? Hell, if you're gonna keep buying sheds a compression tester and a coolant sniffer will only cost you about £20 and at least stop you buying completely f*cked cars. You're lucky the buyer was so good about it, he could have just told you to piss off. Shortest Car Ownership EVER!! - kentiiboii - 08-09-2012 Know any local mechanics? They'll always be happy to help ![]() RE: Shortest Car Ownership EVER!! - Toms306 - 08-09-2012 (08-09-2012, 11:09 AM)kentiiboii Wrote: Know any local mechanics? They'll always be happy to help I'm pretty sure mechanics aren't gonna take time out of thier day to view a car with someone....especially when its an hour round trip to town, plus 15-30mins looking over a car....can't see them doing that tbh.
