I have just purchased the following from Aldi stores Ltd: 1/4 inch drive ratchet set, stubby screw driver set (with about a thousand Torx bits!!!) and a LED Aluminum torch. The built quality of these products is SHOCKING(ly) excellent. The ratchet is a 1/4 inch drive which is VERY handy for getting into tight spaces and it also has an attachment for a screw driver bit on the other side. The stubby screwdriver is excellent in build quality with a compartment to keep spare screws built into the handle and as previously stated many different sizes of Torx bits.
The aluminum torch has a very powerful light and you can adjust the beam by twisting the lense to focus it or spread the light over a wide area. It is clearly modelled after a mini Maglite and that is no bad thing, it feels just as sturdy as it's named brand counterpart. It is perfect for storing inside the glove compartment of any car, truck or van. I would put pictures up but I don't have my camera with me, but get down to Aldi fast if you are interested in any of these items.

As for them not being worth it, totally disagree. For the price you pay they are really good items (obviously not if you are a full-time mechanic etc etc but for the weekend mechanic they are fine).

I bought replacement flexible head ratchet spanners for £13 which were just as good in terms of quality. They wouldnt be terrible to have in the car but without a 13mm its pretty useless for me i think

Its a good point, they well last really well though as its all the sizes that never get used!

Might get one of the screwdriver sets at the weekend. just for when i'm taking apart interior and other bits, cant go wrong for that price.

Went and bought the ratchet screwdriver set earlier, seems good enough but the price reflects the quality
Not bad for £4 though. I also had a look at the ratchet set and the ratchet part (the cog and clicky part...) are all exposed, looks VERY fragile and poor quality. Not bad as an emergency set, but I wouldnt get it if you plan on using it most weekends or even a couple of times a month, I can see the rathet mech' breaking very quickly.

As Dan says, probably be great for a DIYer for the occasional use, but can't see them lasting long if used daily.

I beg to differ, I have looked at the ratchet and played with it somewhat and it is very sturdy. People just discounting Aldi tools because they are from Aldi need to grow up. I have used ratchets which come with Draper DIY series socket sets from Asda bought for £6 and they are still going strong.

Yes but the asda stuff uses not only a higher grade of materials, but the actual breakdown of their atoms are linked in a much stronger weave so to speak

i have a aldi impact wrench used it daily for 3 years now never had a problem with it just lacks power compared to a composite snap-on but cant complain for £15

Just thought I would say that I have been using this today. The ratchet is really handy for adjusting the max fuel on the Bosch, quickly and easily. The ratchet mechanism does slip sometimes though if you don't move it enough degrees because it isn't the most fine toothed of ratchet mechanisms so it needs a fair bit of movement for it to work properly.
