Socket and ratchet sets in Aldi £4 (DO NOT MISS OUT!!!) - Flynn - 22-12-2011 I have just purchased the following from Aldi stores Ltd: 1/4 inch drive ratchet set, stubby screw driver set (with about a thousand Torx bits!!!) and a LED Aluminum torch. The built quality of these products is SHOCKING(ly) excellent. The ratchet is a 1/4 inch drive which is VERY handy for getting into tight spaces and it also has an attachment for a screw driver bit on the other side. The stubby screwdriver is excellent in build quality with a compartment to keep spare screws built into the handle and as previously stated many different sizes of Torx bits. The aluminum torch has a very powerful light and you can adjust the beam by twisting the lense to focus it or spread the light over a wide area. It is clearly modelled after a mini Maglite and that is no bad thing, it feels just as sturdy as it's named brand counterpart. It is perfect for storing inside the glove compartment of any car, truck or van. I would put pictures up but I don't have my camera with me, but get down to Aldi fast if you are interested in any of these items. Re: Socket and ratchet sets in Aldi £4 (DO NOT MISS OUT!!!) - Dan! - 22-12-2011 Sounds great, thanks for the heads up. Re: Socket and ratchet sets in Aldi £4 (DO NOT MISS OUT!!!) - Dum-Dum - 22-12-2011 You got a link mate, keep meaning to get one of these to keep in the car. (shame ive cleaned out my bank account this morning and am now properly skint) Re: Socket and ratchet sets in Aldi £4 (DO NOT MISS OUT!!!) - Connor - 22-12-2011 Sorry but aldi tools aint worth the packaging they come in. That is all. Re: Socket and ratchet sets in Aldi £4 (DO NOT MISS OUT!!!) - Matt - 22-12-2011 We had the same convo on Pugnet. I can't see myself buying any. But thanks for the heads up ![]() Re: Socket and ratchet sets in Aldi £4 (DO NOT MISS OUT!!!) - burnmw - 22-12-2011 Ratchet Shiz: http://www.aldi.co.uk/uk/html/offers/sp ... _22509.htm Torch Shiz: http://www.aldi.co.uk/uk/html/offers/sp ... _22508.htm As for them not being worth it, totally disagree. For the price you pay they are really good items (obviously not if you are a full-time mechanic etc etc but for the weekend mechanic they are fine). Re: Socket and ratchet sets in Aldi £4 (DO NOT MISS OUT!!!) - Matt - 22-12-2011 They don't look to bad for that price Re: Socket and ratchet sets in Aldi £4 (DO NOT MISS OUT!!!) - Flynn - 22-12-2011 burnmw Wrote:Ratchet Shiz: http://www.aldi.co.uk/uk/html/offers/sp ... _22509.htmThanks burnmw, it's totally amazing the people discounting them just because they come from Aldi. I bought ratchet spanners from Aldi for £10, the length of time I had them they were absolutely amazing. I left them behind in the scrappy never to be found again. I bought replacement flexible head ratchet spanners for £13 which were just as good in terms of quality. I didn't think of posting the links hell I didn't know Aldi had a proper website, I know they had one for corporate stuff but not for actual products they were selling. Can't go wrong £2.70 for a torch and £4 for a quarter inch drive ratchet or ratchet screwdriver. Re: Socket and ratchet sets in Aldi £4 (DO NOT MISS OUT!!!) - Connor - 22-12-2011 Theyre like cheap jewellery... use them too much and theyll turn your hands green Socket and ratchet sets in Aldi £4 (DO NOT MISS OUT!!!) - Matt - 22-12-2011 When they do a 3/8 set I may be interested Re: Socket and ratchet sets in Aldi £4 (DO NOT MISS OUT!!!) - burnmw - 22-12-2011 Connor Wrote:Theyre like cheap jewellery... use them too much and theyll turn your hands green Not being funny or owt but no wonder you think they're naff, you're not supposed to wear them  Socket and ratchet sets in Aldi £4 (DO NOT MISS OUT!!!) - Matt - 22-12-2011 burnmw Wrote:Connor Wrote:Theyre like cheap jewellery... use them too much and theyll turn your hands green Lol going to keep saying this. We need a rep button hahaha Re: Socket and ratchet sets in Aldi £4 (DO NOT MISS OUT!!!) - Dum-Dum - 22-12-2011 They wouldnt be terrible to have in the car but without a 13mm its pretty useless for me i think Re: Socket and ratchet sets in Aldi £4 (DO NOT MISS OUT!!!) - mark_airey - 22-12-2011 Dum-Dum Wrote:They wouldnt be terrible to have in the car but without a 13mm its pretty useless for me i think Its a good point, they well last really well though as its all the sizes that never get used! ![]() Re: Socket and ratchet sets in Aldi £4 (DO NOT MISS OUT!!!) - Jake - 22-12-2011 Might get one of the screwdriver sets at the weekend. just for when i'm taking apart interior and other bits, cant go wrong for that price. Re: Socket and ratchet sets in Aldi £4 (DO NOT MISS OUT!!!) - Flynn - 22-12-2011 mark_airey Wrote:At £4 even the dual function ratchet on it's own is a bargain, not to mention I am always finding 10mm sockets go missing. If you don't have a small ratchet handle it's really useful for getting into tight spaces.Dum-Dum Wrote:They wouldnt be terrible to have in the car but without a 13mm its pretty useless for me i think Re: Socket and ratchet sets in Aldi £4 (DO NOT MISS OUT!!!) - Dan! - 22-12-2011 Went and bought the ratchet screwdriver set earlier, seems good enough but the price reflects the quality ![]() I also had a look at the ratchet set and the ratchet part (the cog and clicky part...) are all exposed, looks VERY fragile and poor quality. Not bad as an emergency set, but I wouldnt get it if you plan on using it most weekends or even a couple of times a month, I can see the rathet mech' breaking very quickly. Re: Socket and ratchet sets in Aldi £4 (DO NOT MISS OUT!!!) - n0v0s - 23-12-2011 As Dan says, probably be great for a DIYer for the occasional use, but can't see them lasting long if used daily. Re: Socket and ratchet sets in Aldi £4 (DO NOT MISS OUT!!!) - Flynn - 23-12-2011 I beg to differ, I have looked at the ratchet and played with it somewhat and it is very sturdy. People just discounting Aldi tools because they are from Aldi need to grow up. I have used ratchets which come with Draper DIY series socket sets from Asda bought for £6 and they are still going strong. Re: Socket and ratchet sets in Aldi £4 (DO NOT MISS OUT!!!) - Connor - 23-12-2011 Yes but the asda stuff uses not only a higher grade of materials, but the actual breakdown of their atoms are linked in a much stronger weave so to speak Re: Socket and ratchet sets in Aldi £4 (DO NOT MISS OUT!!!) - masterj555 - 24-12-2011 i have a aldi impact wrench used it daily for 3 years now never had a problem with it just lacks power compared to a composite snap-on but cant complain for £15 Re: Socket and ratchet sets in Aldi £4 (DO NOT MISS OUT!!!) - Flynn - 25-12-2011 Just thought I would say that I have been using this today. The ratchet is really handy for adjusting the max fuel on the Bosch, quickly and easily. The ratchet mechanism does slip sometimes though if you don't move it enough degrees because it isn't the most fine toothed of ratchet mechanisms so it needs a fair bit of movement for it to work properly. |
