Just a quick thought, lets see what you lot think.

Declare a Stage one remap to insurance? Yes or no?

RE: Stage 1 thoughts! - kingy - 25-07-2012

RE: Stage 1 thoughts! - cully - 25-07-2012

RE: Stage 1 thoughts! - cpikey316_ - 25-07-2012

Mainly that I cant afford to have my insurance cancelled....

*edit* has the poll been removed?

Stage 1 thoughts! - Jukie88 - 25-07-2012

They will not check this if u make a claim

RE: Stage 1 thoughts! - Mattcheese31 - 25-07-2012

Stage 1 thoughts! - THE_Liam - 25-07-2012

Don't be daft. Bigger turbo, FMIC, lowering, yes. Slightly "misadjusted" fuel pump, no Wink

Stage 1 thoughts! - Pete - 25-07-2012

To be fair how would they know anyway? Its not like they'll dyno it post claim!

Remap what remap Itwasntme

RE: Stage 1 thoughts! - Jonny81191 - 25-07-2012

If it's an HDi, I'd say you should really declare it as it's something you've had to change/pay for to have done.

Turning up the standard turbo and fuel pump on an XUD? What they gonna do? Dyno it after you've wrapped it in a tree? I think not..

RE: Stage 1 thoughts! - HDIkyle - 26-07-2012

In 2 words... f*ck that!

RE: Stage 1 thoughts! - Toms306 - 26-07-2012

Yes, declare all modifications, even if it does cost £200 a year to add a 10% remap to the insurance.

RE: Stage 1 thoughts! - C.A.R. - 26-07-2012

"I bought it like that"

RE: Stage 1 thoughts! - 306carter - 26-07-2012

This is where you see a north south devide. Us tight northerns will all say f*ck it. How do you know when you buy a car it ain't been remapped?

RE: Stage 1 thoughts! - kernow_joe - 26-07-2012

f*ck em is my thoughts!

but I wouldn't know every car I've owned has been standard ......

This. They'll have to prove otherwise.

RE: Stage 1 thoughts! - Midnightclub - 26-07-2012

How could you be prosecuted for something you had no idea about? When i bought the HDi i didn't even know it had 40mm shocks and springs on the front until about a month after owning it! Blatently obvious stuff like it being slammed on deep dish rims then fair enough, but for something which you can't physically see it'd be difficult for them to prove.. Joe bloggs who has no idea about cars might not even know what a remap is

RE: Stage 1 thoughts! - kernow_joe - 26-07-2012

how many people drive around with alloys not from the factory, do you really think they are all declared as modified?

And how many of them, in the case of an accident, would receive a payout from the insurance?

RE: Stage 1 thoughts! - Toms306 - 26-07-2012

Whilst I do agree with you, it still doesn't work like that.......... Say you didn't see a 40mph sign and were caught doing 60mph, you wouldn't get let off would you as its still illegal, ignorance really doesn't work with the law. :/ As my mate found out who now has a cube where his clio once was.....

Oh btw, I'm saying what you 'should' do, not what people 'do' do!! f*ck decalring thing's like 'clones or a stereo lol......

Also, depending on how good your map is......if you're seen driving a fairly slow vehicle as standard, which is accelerating like a stabbed rat and smoking like a bitch, they're gonna know its not standard. Confused

RE: Stage 1 thoughts! - cpikey316_ - 26-07-2012

Prosecution aside, an insurance company will try anything to get out of paying.

From the 'other forum' one of the remappers said it would take him about 10 seconds to see that the map on the ECU wasnt standard. Id be surprised if they didnt check this in the event of a big payout (your HDi causing a big money car to be written off for example)

Although honestly, Kernow_joes advice was the best.

Yeah I thought about this.......after calling my remap 'PD130Remap' lol, if I can look quickly with a galetto and see that, anyone else could! But as said I declared mine for peace of mind anyway. Smile

People have said this before and I really dont see the difference
What if you had paid someone to do the tune on the xud would that make a difference?

RE: Stage 1 thoughts! - cpikey316_ - 26-07-2012

Yeah, but assuming you can retrieve the ECU, you can prove if its been remapped.

Saying that, if they could prove your fuel pump wasnt standard (say because an anti tamper cap was missing) the insurance companies would probably try to get out of paying out for that too.

Theres a big difference though Tom, a remap doesn't come with a big reflective sign with a red border saying "REMAPPED" does it?

Are you really expected to scan the ECU before you buy a car?
