newbie - hakey - 16-07-2012

I have a 1.4 but wnt quick what do ppl recommend and where thanx

RE: newbie - spike2002 - 16-07-2012

What you mean quick?

RE: newbie - hakey - 16-07-2012

Abit more grunt power wen if needed 1st time iv had anything so slow but love the drive comfy and looks mint

RE: newbie - spike2002 - 16-07-2012

Unfortionatly the 1.4 is quite a crap engine and you wont get any good power out of it with out spending ££££ and id say it just isnt worth it. Smile

RE: newbie - hakey - 16-07-2012

Where can get engine swap and wot do people recommend

RE: newbie - spike2002 - 16-07-2012

Id say if you want a engine swap go down the gti6 route or even a v6 out of a 406 but it all depends what you are after. And if you are doing the conversion urself or not Smile but remember you can pick a gti6 up nowadays for quite cheap and probly less than it would cost you to put a gti6 engine in ur car if ur paying a company to do the work

RE: newbie - samass - 16-07-2012

if you want to be (semi) different, there was a guy at pugfest with a 106, that had the same 1.4 engine. he was running bike bodies, and a high lift cam, and that thing was RUDE.

no idea who he is tho, but theres an idea. roughly looking at 2 grand id say, if you managed to do it on the cheap, but probably more than that...

if you want more power, without paying upwards of 2 grand on insurance, buy a '6, or a DT.

RE: newbie - hakey - 16-07-2012

V6 sounds nice and no nothing bout engine swaps where would I get a v6 dropped in

Insurance is not a problem at all love my cars lol.

RE: newbie - samass - 16-07-2012

i think its pug1off that do/have done them. looking at about 3 grand all in maybe? not really sure about that tho, might have just pulled that figure outta my arse...
give them a google, should get a few results

RE: newbie - spike2002 - 16-07-2012

There are a few pug specialists around. I also know there is someone on ebay advertising engine conversions. But remember if you are going the v6 route you lose the handling of the car and you will also need to upgrade the breaks regardless of going v6 or gti6 route as the 1.4 breaks just wont cut it Smile

Mayb worth buying a 406 v6 coupe as a donor car but you need the engine from a earlyer car that hasnt got the multiplex wireing loom or it will get more expensive.

RE: newbie - samass - 16-07-2012

this man speaks truth!

dont just upgrade power, upgrade everything. brakes, suspension. the standard 1.4 stuff won't cut it all if your adding nearly twice the power.

RE: newbie - spike2002 - 16-07-2012

Im sur if you want to use the later more powerfull engine out of the 406 its alot more complicated and requires stand alone management

RE: newbie - hakey - 16-07-2012

I know has coilovers and brakes stop well very surprised.i will def check some sites they should know as wouldn't have a clue where to start.thanx for all the feedback has been alot of help and ideas to run with

newbie - Jake - 16-07-2012

IMO don't start with a 1.4 base get a 6 and charge it.

RE: newbie - spike2002 - 16-07-2012

No worrys mate keep us updated if you decide to go for a conversion Smile

RE: newbie - hakey - 17-07-2012

Think im goin for v6 then no a company who have turbod couple of my cars so get v6 in but will keep U posted

RE: newbie - spike2002 - 17-07-2012

As said mate it all depends how much you want to spend on the car and what kind of power you want if you want to chuck stupid money at it you could go down the high boost gti6 sc route will cost ££££ but will see you around 450 bhp

There is also a v6 306 cabby on ebay at the mo for £1500 if you are set on v6 mite be worth a look Smile

RE: newbie - hakey - 17-07-2012

Will the gti6 with high boost b same handleing as v6

RE: newbie - samass - 17-07-2012

it'd be better. the v6 REALLY unseats the handling. big change of weight up front

RE: newbie - hakey - 17-07-2012

Unless find some1 to drop the v6 in the back like the clio they did just like thing different tht wows ppl

RE: newbie - spike2002 - 17-07-2012

^^^^ this

But if ur going high boost you are going to need to go forged internals and lsd so you are talking quite a few grand realy

Or there is low boost gti6 that will see you around 250bhp and can be bolted on to a good standard 6 engine Smile

My uncle had a proper v6 renault clio and they dont handle very well i know as i drove it :p

RE: newbie - hakey - 17-07-2012

Time for big think then thanx will check things out thanx again.

RE: newbie - samass - 17-07-2012

i think the lynx kit for the high boost 6 is like 8 or 9 grand, fitted.
low boost being around 6 grand, i think

RE: newbie - spike2002 - 17-07-2012

Im not sure on prices for lynx kit i know its not cheap tho. I know abit on the v6 conversion as i was tempted to do it myself to a estate as a lil project Smile

RE: newbie - samass - 17-07-2012

i had a look the other day, just to let myself know how much i couldnt afford it by lol
pretty sure they're roughly it...

RE: newbie - Niall - 17-07-2012

That bodied 1.4 was epic. That would of easily given any standard 6 a run for its money.

RE: newbie - hakey - 17-07-2012

Hya figured out what im doing might upset ppl but im putting the Vauxhall 2.5 with 3 litre cams in delivers 197bhp power crazy automotive does crazy things
