RE: Matts rallye project - ginge191 - 12-07-2012

This is mad; look away for a day and find the rallye has died! Sounds awful mate Sad

RE: Matts rallye project - Ed Doe - 12-07-2012

Just ffs make sure the aux belt is defs not tangled in the cambelt and nothing else is either before you try starting it!!!

Well if you have taken th belt off, the only thing it will get tangled on is Matt!

RE: Matts rallye project - Fozzy - 12-07-2012

What have you done matt, you haven't had it long.

Hope its nothing serious and you get it sorted.

RE: Matts rallye project - Matt - 12-07-2012

Aux was firmly on so that's not come loose, i think something's gone wrong. But feeling more and more confident it's the alternator/Pully issue. Will find out tomorrow when the garage rings me. If they do say it's the cambelt (even if it's not) get it changed then I have the warrenty with it.

That's also providing its not the cambelt, plus I have no tools as they are 14 miles away in the boot of the xsi!

RE: Matts rallye project - lewisdmz - 12-07-2012

Voltage drop would cause all the dash lights to come on/go crazy wouldn't it?

It would cause the battery light to come on but if the regulator has been blown, it will do all sorts of weird things...even possibly wreck the ECU but doesn't sound like that.

RE: Matts rallye project - Scott - 12-07-2012

Really doesn't sound like the cambelt mate. You would know for certain, rather than just be driving and your mate pointing out lights were on.

Matts rallye project - TheGateKeeper - 12-07-2012

I started DILLIGAF up once and a load of a smoke poured from under the bonnet and the tensioner had seized. I have my money on it being the tensioner or the alternator letting go!

RE: Matts rallye project - Matt - 12-07-2012

Place your bets! Whoever gets it right can pay! Tongue

RE: Matts rallye project - Toby - 12-07-2012

My alternator packed up the other week.. The only light it should cause to come on is the battery light on the dash. These cars are not intelligent enough to detect any other sort of problem.

It's an easy job to do though, Samass and myself (mostly Samass) did mine in under 90 mins, and fitted a new belt for good measure.

I can't think why there would be smoke though unless something is rubbing..

RE: Matts rallye project - Matt - 12-07-2012

If a Pully locked up then it would be the belt rubbing on that as it's trying to go round

RE: Matts rallye project - Toby - 12-07-2012

Sounds like WD40 and hammertime to me.

RE: Matts rallye project - Curt - 12-07-2012

I think a tensioner has seized. Lets just hope it's the auxiliary not the timing belt... It could have run like like it but not for very long... But would have thought you'd have seen if the aux belt was mangled

RE: Matts rallye project - Grant - 12-07-2012

Its f*cked.

Cambelt got stuck in a tapping engine component. PM Ed-Doe, he has experience with this.

If left un-attended it well inevitably crumple the front N/S corner of the car, twisting a chassis leg, and turning it a gay shade of diablo...

RE: Matts rallye project - Niall - 12-07-2012

Toby is talking shit. If the voltage regulator is f*cked it can bring up all sorts of warning lights when it puts anywhere between 6 and 20v through everything. If you've burnt the alternator out, it wouldn't supprise me if the regulator was ruined.
If you need it, I've got a alternator you can have for free/a reach around.
If its a tensioner, there easy to change but getting them second hand isn't as easy as alternators but I doubt it's that because otherwise there wouldn't of been warning lights.

RE: Matts rallye project - samass - 12-07-2012

this is true, i did do most of Toby's alternator change. I also happen to have a spare one, and if you take it off me, ill put my thumb in your butt.

Hate to get in the way of the outrageous sexual tension between Curt Niall and sam's ass.... I mean samass, but has matt actually got any more information to give us?

Ill rephrase

Go find more information biiiiiiaaaaaach!

RE: Matts rallye project - Matt - 13-07-2012

Right so this whole time while the car has been in the garage, it hasn't. The girlfriend came in last night and said that they still hadn't picked my car up. So it's just been sat there this whole time! Pissed off. Gunna call them later

RE: Matts rallye project - Poodle - 13-07-2012

Call them and tell them not to bother, they're clearly not a garage you want to use anyway. I'll drive down tomoz afternoon with the alternator off the cabby and we'll see what we can do mate.

RE: Matts rallye project - Matt - 13-07-2012

Fair enough mate I've got no tools and think the misses is working so bonus! Already got a tow rope on the boot too Smile

The garage did say they were swamped with work and might tow it yesterday. But prob be today. They said they will take a look and see what's wrong and price it up. Might let them do it then just fix it myself outside haha

RE: Matts rallye project - Matt - 13-07-2012

Right so I've had "the call" and it was the worth call.

Cambelt has been rubbing on something. Think a combination of aux belt/ cam belt issue. Maybe even fubard bottom Pully?

Any cambelt shredded and snapped.

New engine time!

Anyone got low booster hanging around?

RE: Matts rallye project - Niall - 13-07-2012

A pulley would of been out and pulled the belt in towards the block most probably. Sorry to hear it mate! Sad

Sure ed would sell you his engine. If he's honest with him self, he will never use it!! Haha
Also in a perfect place for us all to come and help you replace it!

RE: Matts rallye project - samass - 13-07-2012

fuuuuuck dude.

but yeah, ill help out if its on a weekend mate, engine changes are peasy Smile
