Forged Rods group buy - jammapic - 15-12-2011

Hi all,

So we've talked about this a few times on an off, online and at meets... but who is SERIOUSLY interested in a group buy of some forged rods for a 1.9 XUD?

If I pull some strings (and promise advertising in magazines, and on TDOCUK (which I run)) and talk some sales talk the price is likely to be around the £600 mark each, delivered... possibly less depending on numbers.

I'm happy to arrange this, speak with companies, get best prices etc etc I just need to know who can afford it and is properly interested.

So, who is interested - add your name to the list below.

1. JP
2. Padge
3. Daniel306 (theywhoshallnotbenamed)
4. studturbo
5. Connor
6. Jarrus

put me down too Smile

Re: Forged Rods group buy - Chris - 15-12-2011

Guess the HDi guys could use these also?

Presume they're gonna take XUD bearing shells, although it may be beneficial to make them for HDi ones as Darren said there made from better materials.

Re: Forged Rods group buy - jammapic - 15-12-2011

If you are interested, please put your name on the list.

These will be made to stock HDI spec which will obviously fit the XUD9 crank so long as we use the relevant bearings.

Re: Forged Rods group buy - jammapic - 15-12-2011

No. As above, this will be for XUD9 diesel fitment.

Re: Forged Rods group buy - Dum-Dum - 15-12-2011

Are they gonna be standard length or shortened darrenjlobb length?

Re: Forged Rods group buy - sweeney1987 - 15-12-2011

would love to but really cant justify spending more on a set of conrods than i ever have on buying a car!

Re: Forged Rods group buy - darrenjlobb - 15-12-2011

Id be pretty sure they would be standard length, im pretty sure thats what James wanted to run....and for 90% of builds, this is certainly what I would recommend....

If I built my xud again and forged it, id run it on stock compression, you need to make big power with decent rods to need the added saftey, the decomp cocks up so much else its really not worth it...not until your at 300-400hp anyway.

But im pretty sure he will be getting quotes on stock spec rods...

Re: Forged Rods group buy - sweeney1987 - 15-12-2011

so that mean your car is running 3-400 brake darren? Tongue

Re: Forged Rods group buy - darrenjlobb - 16-12-2011

No, like I said, if I did it again, I wouldNT run dropped compression unless it prooved to be an issue, but im pretty sure the stronger rods are more than enough to cope with the added stress without the need...

Re: Forged Rods group buy - jammapic - 16-12-2011

Correct, They will be totally standard spec, with my only decompression being a thick head gasket and POSSIBLY a tiny amount off the tops of the pistons.

Re: Forged Rods group buy - jammapic - 16-12-2011

Have got ballpark figures back from the forgery... Likely to be around the £500 mark each for a full set.

Re: Forged Rods group buy - Connor - 16-12-2011

Thats fapping awesome, cheers for sortin this

Re: Forged Rods group buy - Pompey306mark - 16-12-2011

oh tempting.

Re: Forged Rods group buy - jammapic - 16-12-2011

FYI - We will need half (so around £250) in January when we get to ordering these... It will then be about a 4 week turnaround before they are complete and the other £250 (ish) will need paying before delivery.

Already available in many places, look at the 6 forum.

Re: Forged Rods group buy - Pompey306mark - 17-12-2011

Can I ask all the people on the list a question.

What do you hope from using these? Is it just reliability?

I know JP needs these as his car is over 200bhp. So might be running on borrowed time with his engine.
Is everyone else going to get an expensive turbo like JP? Or run something different?

Re: Forged Rods group buy - jammapic - 17-12-2011

For me its so I can feel comfortable giving it the beans on track over 200hp. At the moment I worry its going to blow up everytime I put my foot down.

JP

Re: Forged Rods group buy - Pompey306mark - 17-12-2011

Yea I guessed that was your reason.

I know Connor wants to get up close to your figure, but wants to use a different turbo.

Re: Forged Rods group buy - jammapic - 17-12-2011

I would say to get up around 200hp its definitely worthwhile.... I feel I'm on borrowed time here.

Re: Forged Rods group buy - Pompey306mark - 17-12-2011

Yea that's why i was thinking about them 200bhp with reasonable reliability.

But I was just wondering what others were going to do to get that figure? Stick with a t25 go bigger, go newer, go twin set up.
