First time ive sprayed anything bigger than a bumper.. Comments and criticism welcome..

Re: My respray - Grant - 10-06-2012

I saw the pictures and thought it looked a bit Matt. But after reading I now know why haha.

Top work, takes some balls to resort your car.

How much to do mine? Smile

Re: My respray - kingy - 10-06-2012

need a bit of a closer look but dont look to bad tbf.

Re: My respray - 4WayDiablo - 10-06-2012

Looks kinda odd for a respray, kinda looks like an original colour as it were

Kinda matt ish. I'm sure it will look better after the polish

Re: My respray - Grant - 10-06-2012

Not every respray has to be a different colour. If the paintwork needs restoring and is beyond compounding, then a respray is often the way forwards.

As he said, he has flatted it back, and it still needs compounding.
Should look pukka when polished up Smile

Re: My respray - 4WayDiablo - 10-06-2012

No I mean it looks like the original paint work, like its still 15 years old lol
But yeah with a polish I shall await the outcome

Re: My respray - Bananalad - 10-06-2012

Yep its an original colour, miami blue Smile It had some dodgy repairs in the past so decided to spray it Smile

I would only i live in ireland and cant get an apprenticeship in it lol Id respray a 306 here for 600 euro with me buying paint and materials for the experience lol

Re: My respray - Bananalad - 10-06-2012

In case people think 600 is dear to spray a 306 materials alone cost 350-400 then factor in the cost of equipment and time lol

Re: My respray - Grant - 10-06-2012

What's that in GBP? Internet on phone is wank and takes ages to load lol

Re: My respray - Bananalad - 10-06-2012

480-500 i think.. Does anyone know if it would be hard to get an apprenticeship in london?

Re: My respray - Grant - 10-06-2012

Tbf mate apprenticeships are going like hot cakes. I'm not saying there arent any out there, but they do go quick in this economic climate.

If you wanna respray my car for 500 quid crack on lol

Re: My respray - Niall - 10-06-2012

Apprenticeships are hard to get at the mo but in all fairness they are coming back. Best thing is to contact some garages and ask if they will considerr you for it. Just don't expect a decent wage as there is no minimum wage on a apprenticeship!

Re: My respray - Grant - 10-06-2012

There is a minimum wage, it's just stupidly low. About £1.25 iirc...

Re: My respray - Niall - 10-06-2012

Ah fair enough. Might be different in Ireland though I suppose.

Re: My respray - Grant - 10-06-2012

Would hardly surprise me....

Whoopps ninja

Re: My respray - Bananalad - 10-06-2012

Yeah the way it works here is you have to get a minimum wage while you work in a garage.. So why would someone take on a apprentice when they could get someone fully qualified for less? lol I wouldn't mind a low wage tbh lol

Re: My respray - Bananalad - 10-06-2012

Im english btw im not insulted lol

Re: My respray - 306carter - 10-06-2012

Cars always look shit when they come out of the booth. The hard work is in the flitting and polishing.

Can get re sprays up north for £450. For a good job too.

£450???? I'd be happy with £850 down here for a good job!

I dont see anyone getting a decent wage out of £450 for a good job.. Id only work for little money untill id be fully qualified..

Re: My respray - C.A.R. - 10-06-2012

Thing with resprays is the the amount of work involved. Most prices people are quoting here are probably just for a 'blow over' where trim and windows are all masked up and the original colour is sprayed on with some lacquer to follow.

Pukka resprays include removing all the trim, bumpers, doors, bonnet, boot and spraying shutlines etc. It's very long-winded.

I like a company near to me to do any spray work, but they're bloody expensive. Every job has been spot-on though. Cost me £150 to get my spoiler fitted and painted to the MX5, £180 for the front splitter primed, painted and fitted.

Bodywork is expensive because it's so time-consuming.

Re: My respray - Bananalad - 10-06-2012

With my respray i had bumpers off, all the trim off, lights out, windows out and i sprayed inside the doors..

I wouldn't be happy unless it was perfect lol

I also primed the whole car which is what i was including in my price Smile

Re: My respray - C.A.R. - 10-06-2012

At a professional shop you'd be looking well into 4 figures for that level of work!

Re: My respray - Bananalad - 10-06-2012

Must try and get an apprenticeship so i can charge that lol

Re: My respray - procta - 10-06-2012

looks great! as you say its work in progress still so its gonna look like new once finshed.
body shops up here you are looking at 1k for a respray.
my cousins boyfriend done a vw camper inside out for 3k.

Re: My respray - samass - 10-06-2012

Doesnt look too bad, seems pretty even! Got any progress shots?

My respray - Matt - 10-06-2012

Looks pretty good mate. As said progress shots?

Re: My respray - Bananalad - 11-06-2012

Thanks fellas, Sorry no progress shots only a few before it was sprayed, car was in a pretty bad state, i got a patch in the roof welded where they usually rot beside the sun roof, a wing was a few shades off, drivers door was badly faded, bonnet and grill had stone chips, both quarter panels had a couple of dents and the back bumper had a small crack which i plastic welded and filled etc..

Ill get a few more pictures up later with how its coming along!

Re: My respray - bongo - 11-06-2012

Looks good so far and as already mentioned, the real benefit comes after flatting back and compounding. I got fed up with a bumper though so good luck on the full car!

What size compressor did you use for this though as it is something I'm quite keen to explore too?

Re: My respray - Bananalad - 11-06-2012

Only used a 50 liter but im getting a 100 liter one soon which should be ideal Smile The smaller one would be ok for doing bumpers on their own though!
